Should I go on an empty stomach for a blood routine check

Blood routine check usually does not require fasting, but if fasting items such as blood glucose and blood lipids need to be tested at the same time, fasting should be done according to medical advice.

Blood routine mainly detects indicators such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, which are less affected by diet. Under normal circumstances, a blood routine check after eating can still accurately reflect the blood status. But if the doctor requires simultaneous liver function, kidney function, blood glucose or lipid tests, these items are susceptible to food interference and need to be maintained on an empty stomach for 8-12 hours to ensure data accuracy. Some special groups, such as diabetes patients, may suffer from hypoglycemia due to long fasting time, so it is necessary to communicate with the doctor in advance to adjust the detection scheme. Before the SEP examination, one should avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol consumption, or staying up late, as these behaviors may temporarily increase white blood cell or red blood cell counts. If only a single blood routine test is performed, it is recommended to seek medical attention after a normal diet, but it is recommended to choose light foods to avoid high-fat diets that can cause blood turbidity and affect the test. If abnormal indicators are found after rechecking the blood routine, a comprehensive judgment should be made based on clinical symptoms and other examination results. If necessary, further investigation of blood system diseases, infections, or inflammation should be conducted under the guidance of a doctor.
