Diabetes is called diabetes in traditional chinese medicine, which is mainly divided into three types: upper, middle and lower diabetes. Dementia is usually related to factors such as lung dryness, stomach heat, kidney deficiency, etc., manifested as symptoms such as excessive drinking, overeating, polyuria, and weight loss.

1. Shangxiao (lung dryness)
Shangxiao mainly focuses on lung dryness, with symptoms such as thirst, excessive drinking, dry mouth and tongue. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the lungs are responsible for promoting the descending of qi, and if the lung yin is insufficient, the body fluid cannot ascend. Such patients can use traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations such as Xiaoke Pill and Yuquan Pill according to the doctor's advice. It is recommended to eat pear, lily and other nourishing and moisturizing foods in daily life, and avoid spicy and hot foods.
2. Zhongxiao (stomach heat)
Zhongxiao is characterized by overeating, easy hunger, and emaciation, which belongs to the category of excessive stomach fire and damage to Yin fluid. Treatment requires clearing heat and nourishing yin. White tiger is often added to ginseng soup and modified. People with damp heat in the spleen and stomach may experience bitter and bad breath, and can be treated with medications such as Huanglian Shangqing tablets. It is advisable to choose heat clearing ingredients such as bitter gourd and cucumber for diet.
3. Xia Xiao (Kidney Deficiency)
Xia Xiao is more common in patients with a longer course of disease, mainly due to kidney yin deficiency leading to polyuria and soreness of the waist and knees. Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Zhibai Dihuang Pills and other nourishing kidney yin drugs are commonly used. When accompanied by symptoms of kidney yang deficiency such as chills and cold limbs, Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan can be used in combination. Recommended dietary supplements include Chinese yam, goji berries, and other kidney tonifying ingredients.

4. Phlegm dampness type
Some patients present with phlegm dampness resistance type, commonly characterized by body fat and fatigue, and thick and greasy tongue coating. Er Chen Tang, Shen Ling Bai Zhu San and other spleen tonifying and dampness dispelling formulas can be selected. This group of people needs to strictly control their fat, sweet, and rich flavors, and exercise in moderation to help transport moisture.
5. Blood stasis type [SEP]: Over time, blood stasis symptoms may appear, such as numbness in limbs and dark purple tongue. Blood activating and stasis removing medicines such as Xuefu Zhuyu Tang and Compound Danshen Tablets can help improve microcirculation. Daily consumption of blood activating ingredients such as hawthorn and black fungus should be avoided, and prolonged sitting should be avoided.
Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes the treatment of diabetes based on syndrome differentiation. In addition to medication, it also requires comprehensive interventions such as dietary regulation and exercise for health preservation. It is recommended that patients regularly monitor their blood sugar levels and combine traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Pay attention to regular daily routines, avoid overwork and emotional disorders, and practice traditional health exercises such as Ba Duan Jin and Tai Chi to assist in regulation.
