Yang deficiency can be improved through dietary regulation, moderate exercise, traditional Chinese medicine regulation, acupoint massage, and adjusting daily routines.
1. Dietary regulation
Yang deficiency patients can consume moderate amounts of warm and nourishing foods, such as lamb, chives, longan, etc. Lamb meat is rich in high-quality protein and iron elements, which can help improve symptoms of cold limbs. Chives contain volatile essential oils and sulfides, which can promote blood circulation. Guiyuan has the effect of nourishing the heart and spleen, suitable for Yang deficiency patients with insufficient Qi and blood. Avoid raw and cold ingredients such as bitter gourd, crab, etc. when cooking. Daily consumption of ginger and brown sugar water can assist in dispelling cold.
2. Moderate exercise
Choose soothing exercises such as Ba Duan Jin and Tai Chi, and do them 3-5 times a week for 20-30 minutes each time. The Eight Section Brocade move of "supporting the Heavenly Principle with both hands and three burners" can stimulate yang energy and improve cold hands and feet. The cloud hand movements of Tai Chi can promote the circulation of qi and blood. Avoid excessive exercise that can cause sweating and damage to yang, and wipe off sweat promptly after exercise to prevent catching a cold. Keep your joints warm before winter sports, and it is recommended to engage in outdoor activities during sunny periods.
3. Chinese medicine conditioning
You Gui Pill, Jin Kui Shen Qi Pill, Fuzi Li Zhong Pill and other traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations can be used under the guidance of Chinese medicine practitioners. Yougui Pill contains prepared rehmannia, yam and other ingredients, which is suitable for the waist and knee soreness caused by insufficient kidney yang. Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan is mainly composed of Gui Zhi and Fu Zi, which can warm and tonify kidney yang. Fuzi Lizhong Pill is suitable for diarrhea and chills caused by spleen and stomach deficiency and coldness. During the period of taking, avoid consuming detoxifying foods such as mung beans and radishes. If you experience dry mouth and sore throat, stop taking the medication and seek follow-up.
4. Acupoint massage
Massage Guanyuan and Mingmen acupoints for 3-5 minutes each morning. The Guanyuan acupoint is located three inches below the navel. Rubbing and pressing it clockwise in the palm of the hand can cultivate and replenish vitality. The Mingmen acupoint is located under the spinous process of the second lumbar spine, and pushing and rubbing the palm root up and down can warm up the kidney yang. Combined with moxibustion, the effect is better. Moxibustion at each acupoint lasts for 10-15 minutes, and the skin will become flushed. Rub your hands hot before massage, and women during menstruation should pause stimulation of the waist acupoints.
5. Adjust your schedule
Ensure that you fall asleep before 23:00 to avoid staying up late and damaging your yang energy. Take a 30 minute nap at noon to replenish yang energy, but it should not exceed 1 hour. Maintain a suitable temperature of 20-24 ℃ in the living room, and use a warm water bag to warm the waist and abdomen in winter. Drink warm water instead of cold water in the morning, and use warm water for washing up. Wear a scarf to protect the Dazhui acupoint in winter, avoid direct air conditioning in summer, and pay attention to keeping the waist and back warm.
Yang deficiency regulation needs to be persisted for a long time, and daily exposure to sunlight, especially on the back, can be increased. Choose a period of gentle sunlight from 9-10 am or 3-4 pm in the afternoon. Maintain emotional stability and avoid excessive thinking that can harm spleen yang. Quit smoking, limit alcohol consumption, and reduce intake of raw and cold foods. If symptoms such as persistent diarrhea, edema, or palpitations occur, it is necessary to seek medical attention promptly at a traditional Chinese medicine clinic. During the conditioning period, record monthly changes in tongue coating and improvement in chills, and adjust the plan according to physical fitness.
