Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Differentiation and Typing of Hypertension

Traditional Chinese medicine divides hypertension into three types based on syndrome differentiation: liver yang hyperactivity type, phlegm dampness obstruction type, yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity type, qi and blood deficiency type, and kidney essence deficiency type. The etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and treatment principles of different subtypes have their own characteristics, and targeted adjustments should be made based on individual differences.

1. Liver Yang Hyperactivity Type

Liver Yang Hyperactivity Type Hypertension is often related to emotional disorders, liver depression, and the transformation of fire. Common symptoms include dizziness, red face, and irritability. The treatment mainly focuses on calming the liver and reducing yang, and Tianma Gouteng granules and modified Zhengan Xifeng decoction can be used. II. Phlegm dampness obstruction type

Phlegm dampness obstruction type is often caused by spleen dysfunction and water dampness stagnation, manifested as heavy head, chest tightness, and white and greasy tongue coating. Smooth or wet pulse. The treatment method is suitable for dispelling phlegm and dampness, and commonly used formulas include Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang and Wendan Tang. Patients should limit their fat and sweet flavors and engage in appropriate exercise to promote metabolism.

Type 3: Yin Deficiency and Yang Hyperactivity

This type is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. Due to the deficiency of Yin fluid, it leads to the disturbance of deficiency and yang, and symptoms include dizziness, tinnitus, restlessness and heat in the five hearts, and soreness and weakness in the waist and knees. Red tongue with little coating, fine veins. Treatment requires nourishing yin and reducing fire, commonly using Qiju Dihuang Pills and Zhibai Dihuang Pills. It is recommended to avoid staying up late and consume nourishing ingredients such as lilies and Tremella fuciformis.

Fourth, Qi and Blood Deficiency Type

Patients with Qi and Blood Deficiency Type are often accompanied by pale complexion, shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations, and weak tongue and pulse. The pathogenesis is a deficiency of both the heart and spleen, with insufficient qi and blood biochemistry. Suitable for nourishing qi and blood, choose Guipi Tang, Bazhen Tang, etc. Diet can increase the intake of spleen tonifying ingredients such as red dates and yams, combined with moderate aerobic exercise.

5. Kidney essence deficiency type

Kidney essence deficiency type is commonly seen in chronic illness or elderly and weak individuals, manifested as dizziness, forgetfulness, tinnitus, deafness, and lumbar spine soreness. The tongue is lightly coated with white fur, and the veins are deep and thin. The treatment mainly focuses on filling essence and tonifying kidney, and the formula uses Zuo Gui Wan and Gui Lu Er Xian Jiao. Sexual activity should be restrained, and kidney tonifying foods such as black sesame and walnuts can be consumed. Patients with hypertension need to monitor their blood pressure changes for a long time, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment should be combined with constitution differentiation and treatment. It is recommended to engage in 30 minutes of soothing exercises such as Tai Chi and Ba Duan Jin every day. The diet should follow the principle of low salt and low fat, and limit the daily sodium intake to no more than 5 grams. Avoid overwork and emotional fluctuations, quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption. If acute symptoms such as worsening headache and blurred vision occur, seek medical attention immediately.
