Chronic pharyngitis can be divided into three types in traditional Chinese medicine: lung yin deficiency type, kidney yin deficiency type, spleen deficiency and dampness excess type, liver stagnation and qi stagnation type, and phlegm blood stasis type. Treatment requires differentiation and treatment.

1. Pulmonary yin deficiency type
is characterized by dry throat itching and pain, dry cough with less phlegm, hoarse voice, and red tongue with less coating. It is often caused by external pathogenic factors or prolonged illness that damages the lung yin. You can choose to add or subtract Yangyin Qingfei Tang, and commonly used traditional Chinese medicines include ginseng, Ophiopogon japonicus, and Scrophularia. Patients should avoid spicy and stimulating foods and maintain indoor humidity. Can be combined with Yinhuang lozenges to alleviate local symptoms.
2. Kidney yin deficiency type
symptoms include burning sensation in the throat, worsening at night, soreness and weakness in the waist and knees, often accompanied by tinnitus and dizziness. More common in middle-aged and elderly people or those who are overworked. The treatment is based on Liuwei Dihuang Pill, with the addition of Zhimu and Huangbai. Daily consumption of nourishing kidney yin products such as black sesame and wolfberry can avoid staying up late and overexertion.
3. The characteristics of spleen deficiency and dampness excess type
are obvious stickiness in the throat, multi-color white phlegm, loss of appetite, and white and greasy tongue coating. Due to improper diet, it can damage one's temper. It is recommended to use Shen Ling Bai Zhu San to invigorate the spleen and dispel dampness, combined with expectorants such as tangerine peel and Pinellia ternata. The diet should not be cold, sweet and greasy. You can drink some poria yam Congee.

4. Symptoms of liver stagnation and qi stagnation

The treatment is mainly based on Chaihu Shugan San, with the addition of qi regulating drugs such as Yujin and Xiangfu. Suggest adjusting your emotional state and practicing soothing exercises such as Eight Section Brocade to avoid feeling angry.
5. Phlegm blood stasis type
has a longer course of disease, with a dark red and thickened throat, a feeling of foreign body, and a dark purple or bruised tongue. Often due to prolonged illness entering the meridians. It is necessary to modify the Huiyan Zhuyu Tang, and commonly use blood activating and stasis removing medicines such as Danshen and Taoren. Can be combined with local nebulization therapy to quit irritating habits such as smoking and alcohol. Patients with chronic pharyngitis should pay attention to maintaining oral hygiene and rinse their mouth several times a day with diluted salt water. The diet should be light, eat more lily, snow pear and other lung moistening food, and eat less fried spicy food. Maintain air circulation in the residence but avoid direct blowing. Properly engage in Tai Chi exercises and exercises to enhance positive energy. Regular follow-up visits should be conducted during the treatment period, and medication should be adjusted according to changes in symptoms. Generally, continuous adjustment for 2-3 months is needed to consolidate the therapeutic effect. If the symptoms continue to worsen or there are abnormalities such as hemoptysis, it is necessary to seek medical attention promptly to rule out other diseases.
