Fasting for a day after overeating is not scientific. This practice may cause problems such as hypoglycemia, metabolic disorders, muscle loss, increased burden on the digestive system, and increased psychological stress.
1. Hypoglycemia risk:
Fasting can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and lack of concentration. Long term repeated fasting may affect insulin sensitivity and increase the risk of diabetes. It is recommended to burn excess calories through moderate exercise after overeating, rather than completely stopping eating.
2. Metabolic disorders:
The human body requires continuous energy supply to maintain basal metabolism. Sudden fasting can activate the body's stress mechanism, reduce basal metabolic rate to preserve energy, and instead affect subsequent weight loss effects. After overeating, one should resume a regular three meal diet, with each meal controlled to be 70% full.
3. Muscle loss:
During fasting, the lower body will break down muscle protein to provide energy. A decrease in muscle mass will directly reduce daily calorie consumption, forming a predisposition to obesity. It is recommended to supplement high-quality protein such as eggs and fish after overeating, and to use resistance training to protect muscle tissue.
4. Digestive system burden:
Overeating has caused gastrointestinal dilation, and sudden fasting may lead to problems such as bile stasis and gastric acid irritation. The correct way is to choose easily digestible food such as millet porridge and pumpkin the next day, and a small amount of multiple meals to help restore gastrointestinal function. 5. Psychological stress: Compensatory fasting can easily trigger a vicious cycle of guilt, overeating, and re fasting. It is recommended to accept occasional loss of control over diet and adjust the eating rhythm by writing a diet diary. If necessary, seek guidance from a nutritionist to establish a scientific eating concept.
