Constipation and bad breath may be related to indigestion, but they can also be caused by other factors. The main reasons include gastrointestinal heat accumulation, spleen and stomach weakness, improper diet, imbalance of intestinal flora, oral diseases, etc. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly and receive targeted treatment after identifying the cause.
1. Gastrointestinal heat accumulation
Long term spicy and stimulating diet or poor mood may lead to gastrointestinal heat accumulation, manifested as constipation, bad breath accompanied by abdominal distension and pain. In traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations such as Maren Runchang Pill and Zhishi Daozhi Pill are commonly used to clear heat and relieve constipation, together with substitute tea drinks such as honeysuckle and cassia seed. Avoid staying up late and experiencing emotional fluctuations in daily life.
2. Weakness of the spleen and stomach
When the digestive function of the spleen and stomach is reduced, food is retained in the intestines, resulting in the accumulation of stagnant qi and the formation of bad breath. It is common for stool to dry first and then become soft. Spleen invigorating drugs such as Shenling Baizhu Powder and Xiangsha Liujun Pill can improve symptoms. For dietotherapy, it is recommended to use yam millet porridge with a proper amount of tangerine peel.
3. Improper diet
A high-fat and low fiber diet can slow down gastrointestinal motility, and undigested protein can ferment in the colon to produce sulfides, leading to bad breath. It is recommended to increase the intake of dietary fiber such as broccoli and oats, drink no less than 1500 milliliters of water per day, and avoid excessive intake of dairy products.
4. Imbalance of gut microbiota
Long term use of antibiotics or intestinal infections may lead to a decrease in probiotics, excessive proliferation of harmful bacteria, and the production of odorous gases. According to medical advice, probiotics such as Bifidobacterium triple active capsules and Bacillus subtilis double active granules can be used to regulate the balance of the microbiota.
5. Oral diseases
Dental problems such as tooth decay and periodontitis can mix with food residues to cause bad breath, while reducing chewing due to pain and affecting digestive function. Regular oral examinations are required, and compound chlorhexidine mouthwash should be used to control infections, in conjunction with proper Babbitt brushing for cleaning. Patients with constipation and bad breath should establish a regular bowel movement habit in their daily lives. Drinking warm honey water on an empty stomach in the morning can stimulate intestinal peristalsis, and massaging the abdomen clockwise after meals can promote digestion. Practice the Eight Section Brocade technique of "regulating the spleen and stomach with a single lift" appropriately to avoid prolonged sitting. If the symptoms persist for more than two weeks or are accompanied by weight loss, rectal bleeding, and other symptoms, specialized examinations such as gastroscopy should be performed to rule out organic diseases. TCM recuperation can consider acupuncture and moxibustion at Tianshu, Zusanli and other acupoints, or use cassia seed, hawthorn and other herbal teas to assist in improvement according to the constitution.
