How to treat tinnitus with traditional Chinese medicine

Tinnitus can be treated by means of traditional Chinese medicine conditioning, acupuncture and moxibustion, massage, acupoint application, ear point pressing, etc. Tinnitus may be related to factors such as kidney essence deficiency, liver yang hyperactivity, insufficient qi and blood, phlegm and dampness obstruction, wind and heat invasion, etc. It usually manifests as symptoms such as ear ringing, hearing loss, dizziness and vertigo.

1. Traditional Chinese medicine conditioning

Tinnitus of kidney essence deficiency type can be treated with traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations such as Deafness Zuoci Pill, Liuwei Dihuang Pill, Qiju Dihuang Pill and so on according to the doctor's advice, which has the effect of nourishing kidney essence. For liver yang hyperactivity type, Tianma Gouteng granules and modified Zhengan Xifeng Tang can be used. For those with insufficient Qi and blood, Guipi Tang or Bazhen Tang can be used. Traditional Chinese medicine should be treated based on the differentiation of physical constitution and avoid self medication.

2. acupuncture and moxibustion treatment

The periauricular points such as Tinggong, Yifeng, and Ermen are often selected, together with the distal points such as Taixi and Sanyinjiao. The positive tinnitus is treated with reducing method, and the deficiency syndrome is treated with reinforcing method or warm acupuncture and moxibustion. Acupuncture and moxibustion can dredge the ear meridians and improve local blood circulation. It is treated 2-3 times a week, 10 times as a course of treatment. It should be operated by a professional traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to avoid adverse reactions such as dizziness caused by needles.

3. Tuina massage

can use the Mingtian drum technique: the palms of both hands are tightly attached to the ear holes, the fingers are placed on the pillow, and the index finger is pressed on the middle finger to slide down and lightly tap the back of the head. Do it 30 times a day in the morning and 30 times in the evening. Cooperating with massaging the acupoints around the ears and the Fengchi acupoint on the neck can relieve muscle tension and promote the circulation of qi and blood in the ears. Pay attention to moderate intensity, it is not suitable for those with damaged skin.

4. Acupoint application

After grinding medicinal herbs such as Wu Zhu Yu and magnet, mix them with vinegar to form a paste and apply it to the Yongquan acupoint or the Yifeng acupoint behind the ear, stimulating the acupoints through drug penetration. Suitable for inflammatory tinnitus caused by virtual fire, apply for 4-6 hours each time. Do not use for individuals with skin allergies. During the application period, avoid getting wet. If there is skin itching, stop using immediately.

5. Ear acupressure

Select acupoints such as the ear kidney, inner ear, and Shenmen, apply Wangbuliuxing seed paste, and press and stimulate them regularly. Press it 3-5 times a day for 1-2 minutes each time, and replace it every 3 days. This method can regulate the function of internal organs, especially suitable for long-term regulation of chronic tinnitus. Pay attention to keeping the ears clean to prevent allergies to the adhesive tape. Patients with tinnitus should avoid prolonged exposure to noisy environments, ensure adequate sleep, and limit caffeine and alcohol intake in their daily lives. You can practice soothing exercises such as Eight Section Brocade and Tai Chi, combined with dietary therapies such as lilies, black sesame seeds, and walnuts. If tinnitus continues to worsen or is accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness and headache, it is necessary to seek medical attention promptly at a traditional Chinese medicine or otolaryngology department to rule out organic diseases. Maintain emotional stability during treatment and avoid overexertion.
