How to treat pharyngitis with traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment of pharyngitis mainly involves comprehensive intervention through oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine, external treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion, diet regulation and emotional regulation. Pharyngitis belongs to the category of pharyngitis in traditional Chinese medicine, which is often caused by invasion of wind and heat, excessive heat in the lungs and stomach, yin deficiency and excessive fire, or qi stagnation and blood stasis. It needs to be treated based on syndrome differentiation.

1. Oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine

Yin Qiao San, commonly used for wind heat invading the lungs, is modified and contains ingredients such as honeysuckle and Forsythia suspensa to clear heat and detoxify; For patients with excessive heat in the lungs and stomach, choose Qingyan Ligue Decoction, which contains laxatives such as Huangqin and Gardenia; Yin deficiency type is often treated with Yangyin Qingfei Tang, which contains Ophiopogon japonicus and Xuanshen to nourish yin and moisten the throat. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners should adjust the prescription based on tongue coating and pulse conditions to avoid self medication.

2. External treatment

The mouthwash method can use honeysuckle and mint decoction to rinse the mouth; Spray ice boron powder or watermelon cream on the affected area using the blowing method; Nebulized inhalation of Houttuynia cordata injection can alleviate mucosal edema. External treatment directly acts on the lesion, but preparations containing musk are contraindicated for pregnant women.

3. acupuncture and moxibustion therapy

Take Lianquan, Tiantu and Lieque as the main points, and use Shaoshang pricking to bleed. For empirical cases, use the laxative method; for deficiency cases, use the tonic method, once a day for 5 consecutive days. Ear needles are selected to apply pressure to acupoints such as the throat and lungs, suitable for children and those who are afraid of needles.

4. Diet conditioning

Avoid spicy and hot food. It is recommended to stew snow pear with Sichuan fritillary to moisten lung, and soak Siraitia grosvenorii in water to clear heat. People with yin deficiency can use sand ginseng and jade bamboo to cook old duck, while those with phlegm heat can drink water chestnut juice. Dietary therapy should be maintained for a long time, and medication should be used in conjunction with acute attacks.

5. Emotional regulation

Liver qi stagnation type with obvious foreign body sensation in the throat requires soothing the liver and relieving depression, combined with pressing the Taichong acupoint. Avoid excessive use of voice and emotional excitement, practice the Eight Section Brocade to regulate qi. Chronic patients can use pentatonic music to promote lung and throat function. During the treatment period, smoking and drinking should be prohibited, spicy stimulation should be reduced, and oral hygiene should be maintained. Seek medical attention promptly if high fever and difficulty breathing occur during the acute phase. Patients with chronic pharyngitis should avoid exposure to irritants such as dust, maintain regular sleep patterns to enhance positive energy, and cooperate with moderate throat massage to promote local Qi and blood circulation. Pay attention to keeping the neck warm in winter, avoid direct air conditioning in summer, and maintain physical fitness for at least 3 months.
