How to eliminate bruises after blood draw during physical examination?

After a physical examination, bruising can be eliminated through local cold compress, hot compress, medication application, limb elevation, moderate activity, and other methods. Bruising is usually caused by subcutaneous bleeding and can mostly resolve on its own.

1. Local cold compress

Within 24 hours after blood draw, ice packs or cold towels can be used to apply cold compress to the bruised area, 10-15 minutes each time, repeated 1-2 hours apart. Low temperature can constrict blood vessels, reduce bleeding, and alleviate swelling and pain. Be careful to avoid frostbite on the skin, and wrap the ice pack with a clean towel.

2. Hot compress promotes absorption

After 48 hours, you can use a warm towel to apply to the bruise area 3-4 times a day, for 15 minutes each time. Hot compress can dilate blood vessels and accelerate blood circulation, helping to break down and absorb congestion. The water temperature should not exceed 40 ℃ to avoid burns.

3. Medication application

Follow the doctor's advice to use topical medications such as polysaccharide sulfate cream and heparin sodium cream, and apply them thinly to the affected area 2-3 times a day. This type of medication can inhibit coagulation, reduce swelling, and remove blood stasis. Do not use when the skin is damaged, and those with allergies should try it on a small scale first.

4. Raise limbs

When the upper limbs are bruised, raise the elbows above the level of the heart, and when the lower limbs are bruised, lie flat and raise the legs. Utilize gravity to reduce local blood stasis, elevate for 20-30 minutes each time, multiple times a day.

5. Moderate activity

After 24 hours, gently move the joints where blood is drawn, such as clenching fists, rotating the wrist, etc., to promote venous return. Avoid vigorous exercise or compression of bruises to prevent secondary bleeding. Pressing the needle hole for 5-10 minutes after blood draw can prevent the formation of bruising. Daily intake of citrus fruits and kiwis rich in vitamin C can help enhance vascular elasticity. When the bruising persists for more than 2 weeks without subsiding, accompanied by severe pain or darkening of the skin, medical attention should be sought to rule out diseases such as coagulation dysfunction. Avoid rubbing the bruised area to prevent the capillaries from rupturing again.
