What should I not eat if my uric acid is too high

Patients with high uric acid levels should avoid consuming animal organs, thick meat soup, some seafood, alcoholic beverages, and high fructose foods to prevent worsening of the condition.

1. Animal organs

Animal organs such as pig liver, chicken heart, duck intestine, etc. belong to highly purine foods. After ingestion, they will rapidly metabolize and produce a large amount of uric acid in the body, leading to a sharp increase in blood uric acid levels. For individuals with high uric acid levels, consuming such foods can easily trigger acute attacks of gout, causing severe joint pain, redness, and fever. Long term excessive intake can also increase the burden on the kidneys, which may lead to the formation of uric acid kidney stones. It is recommended to completely eliminate these types of ingredients from daily diet, choose lean meat with low purine content as a protein source, and drink plenty of water to promote excretion.

2. Concentrated meat soup

Concentrated meat soup, hot pot soup, or aged soup that has been boiled for a long time contains a large amount of purine substances dissolved because purine is easily soluble in water. The thicker the soup, the higher the purine content. Drinking these soups is equivalent to directly ingesting high concentrations of purines, which can quickly increase the concentration of uric acid in the blood, which is not conducive to disease control. Many patients mistakenly believe that drinking soup is nourishing, but in fact, it is extremely harmful to hyperuricemia. When cooking meat, it is recommended to blanch it to remove the fishy smell and discard the first layer of soup. It is recommended to drink plain water or light tea as much as possible in daily life, and avoid drinking various meat soups, fish soups, and mushroom soups to reduce the intake of exogenous purines.

3. Some Seafood

The purine content of some seafood, especially shellfish, sardine, anchovies and caviar, is far higher than that of other food categories. These seafood products produce significant uric acid load during metabolism, which is an important factor in inducing gout. People with high uric acid levels who frequently consume this type of seafood may not only experience recurrent joint symptoms, but may also damage kidney function. Although not all seafood cannot be eaten, the above-mentioned high purine types must be strictly avoided. During the stable period of the disease, small amounts of sea cucumber, jellyfish, etc. with relatively low purine content can be selected, but the total amount still needs to be strictly controlled. Do not indulge in freshness and ignore health risks.

4. Alcoholic beverages

Alcoholic beverages, especially beer and Baijiu, are major contraindications for patients with high uric acid. Beer contains a large amount of guanosine, which is metabolized to produce purines, and alcohol itself inhibits the excretion of uric acid by the kidneys, leading to the accumulation of uric acid in the body. Drinking alcohol can also cause lactate accumulation, further competitively inhibiting the excretion of uric acid, which can easily lead to acute gout arthritis under dual effects. Even red wine or other low alcohol beverages can disrupt the balance of uric acid metabolism. In order to effectively control blood uric acid levels and prevent complications, patients should completely quit drinking and replace alcoholic beverages with white water, soda water, or light tea water to maintain smooth metabolism in the body.

5. High fructose foods

High fructose foods include sugary drinks, fruit juice, honey, and some overly sweet fruits. Fructose consumes a large amount of adenosine triphosphate during metabolism in the body, which promotes purine breakdown to produce uric acid. Meanwhile, high fructose intake may also lead to insulin resistance, indirectly reducing uric acid excretion. Many people overlook the impact of sugar on uric acid, thinking that as long as they don't eat seafood and meat soup, it's enough. In fact, sugary drinks are also invisible killers of uric acid. In daily life, one should refuse to drink carbonated drinks and pre packaged fruit juices, eat less preserved fruits and candies, choose low sugar fruits to consume in moderation, and block the pathway of fructose conversion to uric acid from the source. People with high uric acid levels should adhere to the principle of low purine diet in daily life, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits such as broccoli, cucumber, tomato, etc., and ensure sufficient daily water intake to promote uric acid excretion. Moderate aerobic exercise such as walking, jogging, or swimming can help control weight and improve metabolism, but vigorous exercise should be avoided to prevent lactate accumulation. Pay attention to regular sleep patterns, avoid staying up late and excessive mental stress, and regularly monitor blood uric acid levels. If discomfort symptoms such as joint redness, swelling, heat and pain occur, it is necessary to promptly seek medical attention at a regular hospital's rheumatology and immunology department, and receive standardized treatment under the guidance of professional doctors. Do not blindly take medication or believe in folk remedies on your own, in order to avoid delaying the condition and causing irreversible organ damage.
