6 taboos for making bayberry wine

Although Yangmei infused wine has health benefits, it is important to avoid six taboos, including drinking on an empty stomach, excessive intake, and taking it with specific medications. Yangmei wine contains organic acids and alcohol components, improper consumption may cause gastrointestinal discomfort or increase liver and kidney burden.

1. Drinking

Yangmei wine on an empty stomach can directly stimulate the gastric mucosa, causing symptoms such as stomach pain and acid reflux. It is recommended to drink it with staple food or Dim sum to buffer the gastrointestinal irritation. Patients with diabetes should especially avoid drinking on an empty stomach to prevent hypoglycemia caused by the synergistic effect of alcohol and hypoglycemic drugs.

2. Excessive intake

Drinking more than 100 milliliters per day may increase the metabolic burden on the liver, and long-term overdose can lead to an increased risk of fatty liver. Cyanide glycosides in Yangmei may cause mild toxic reactions in excess, manifested as dizziness and nausea. It is recommended to drink no more than 3 times a week, with each time limited to 50 milliliters.

3. When taken with cephalosporin drugs [SEP], alcohol can cause disulfiram like reactions with antibiotics such as cefuroxime capsules and cefuroxime axetil tablets, resulting in symptoms such as facial flushing and palpitations. Drinking alcohol while taking antihypertensive drugs such as nifedipine controlled-release tablets may enhance vasodilation and lead to orthostatic hypotension. It is recommended to refrain from drinking Yangmei wine during the medication period and for 7 days after discontinuing the medication.

4. Drinking spoiled wine

Yangmei wine indicates that it has become moldy and may contain harmful substances such as penicillin when it has flocculent sediment and a sour odor. If the container is not thoroughly disinfected during home brewing, it is easy to breed Clostridium botulinum. If the liquor is cloudy or the bottle cap is bulging, it should be discarded immediately to avoid food poisoning.

5. Drinking

by special populations may affect fetal neurological development, and gout patients may experience worsening symptoms due to purine metabolism. Children's liver has poor ability to metabolize alcohol, and even small amounts can lead to poisoning. Drinking for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers can stimulate the wound and delay the healing process.

6. Storage in High Temperature Environment

Direct sunlight or high temperature environment can accelerate alcohol evaporation and component deterioration. The ideal storage temperature is 15-20 ℃. Long term storage in non food grade plastic containers may lead to the dissolution of plasticizers. It is recommended to use a glass sealed jar and store it in a cool place. After opening, it should be refrigerated and consumed within one month.

When drinking bayberry wine, it can be paired with alkaline foods such as soda crackers to neutralize acidity. Drinking honey water appropriately after drinking can help with alcohol metabolism. When making homemade wine, fresh and undamaged waxberries should be selected, cleaned thoroughly, and then air dried before soaking. If discomfort symptoms such as palpitations and vomiting occur, stop drinking immediately. In severe cases, seek medical treatment. Pay attention to avoiding light and moisture during daily storage, and regularly check the condition of the liquor.
