What does TCT report ascus mean

ASCUS in TCT report refers to atypical squamous cells, which are one of the abnormal results of cervical cytology examination and may be caused by inflammation, infection, or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

1. Inflammatory factors

Chronic cervicitis may lead to ASCUS results, often accompanied by symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge and contact bleeding. Treatment should be tailored to the type of inflammation, such as metronidazole vaginal effervescent tablets for bacterial inflammation, azithromycin tablets for mycoplasma infection, and clotrimazole vaginal tablets for fungal infection. Daily hygiene of the perineum is necessary to avoid unclean sexual activity.

2. HPV infection

High risk human papillomavirus persistent infection is a common cause of ASCUS, which may be accompanied by irregular vaginal bleeding. Combined with HPV typing testing, vaginal colposcopy is recommended for high-risk infections. Interferon suppositories, Baofukang suppositories, and other medications can be used for adjuvant therapy, while also enhancing immunity and promoting virus clearance.

3. Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

Some ASCUS cases have low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, manifested as abnormal proliferation of cells in the cervical transition zone. Diagnosis depends on vaginal biopsy under colposcopy. For mild lesions, recombinant human interferon alpha 2b vaginal effervescent tablets can be used. For moderate to severe lesions, cervical conization may be required.

4. Fluctuations in hormone levels

Changes in estrogen levels caused by perimenopause or oral contraceptives may lead to changes in cell morphology, usually without specific symptoms. It is suggested to recheck TCT after 3-6 months, adjust hormone treatment scheme if necessary, and coordinate with traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations such as Kuntai capsule.

5. Technical factors

Insufficient specimen collection or poor fixation may result in false positives, in which case repeated test results are mostly normal. It is recommended to resample 3-7 days after menstruation and choose an experienced physician to perform the procedure. Liquid based cytology examination can improve accuracy.

It was found that ASCUS results should be improved with HPV testing and vaginal colposcopy examination, avoiding vigorous exercise and baths, and wearing cotton breathable underwear. Pay attention to supplementing antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin A and vitamin E in diet, and consume vegetables such as broccoli and carrots in moderation. It is recommended to undergo cytological examination every 3-6 months, and those with persistent abnormalities need further evaluation and treatment.
