High uric acid levels may cause diseases such as gouty arthritis and kidney stones, with typical symptoms including joint redness, swelling, heat pain, and abnormal urination. Patients with high uric acid levels should strictly limit their intake of high purine foods, high fructose foods, alcoholic beverages, animal organs, and some seafood.
1. High purine foods:
It is absolutely prohibited to consume foods with a purine content exceeding 150 milligrams per 100 grams. Thick broth, hot pot base, and anchovy purine content can reach 300-500 milligrams, which can easily trigger acute gout attacks. Plant based high purine foods such as dried mushrooms and seaweed also need to be controlled in intake.
2. High fructose foods:
Foods with high fructose content such as sugary drinks, honey, mangoes, etc. can inhibit uric acid excretion. During fructose metabolism, a large amount of purine precursor substances are produced, indirectly increasing blood uric acid levels. It is recommended to limit daily intake of added sugar to below 25 grams.
3. Alcoholic drinks:
Beer contains guanylic acid which is easily converted into purine, and Baijiu metabolism produces lactic acid which competitively inhibits uric acid excretion. Alcohol intake can cause a short-term increase of 30-50 μ mol/L in blood uric acid levels, and gout patients should completely quit drinking.
4. Animal organs:
Pig liver, chicken gizzard and other animal organs have 3-5 times higher purine content than ordinary meat. Every 100 grams of duck liver contains about 300 milligrams of purine, which can cause a peak in blood uric acid levels and trigger joint pain 2-3 hours after ingestion.
5. Some seafood:
The purine content of deep-sea fish such as sardine, saury, hairtail is very high, and shellfish such as oysters also need to be limited. But low purine seafood such as sea cucumber and jellyfish can be consumed in moderation, and it is recommended not to exceed 200 grams per week. People with high uric acid levels should drink at least 2000 milliliters of water per day and can use soda water to alkalize their urine. It is recommended to choose low-fat dairy products, eggs, fresh vegetables, and other low purine foods, with steaming as the main cooking method. Regularly engage in aerobic activities such as swimming and cycling to avoid joint injuries caused by intense exercise. Regular monitoring of blood uric acid levels and controlling the value below 360 μ mol/L can effectively prevent complications. When severe joint pain or hematuria occurs, seek medical attention immediately, and if necessary, use uric acid lowering drugs under the guidance of a doctor.
