In traditional Chinese medicine theory, coronary heart disease in the elderly is mainly related to factors such as qi and blood stasis, phlegm stagnation, liver and kidney deficiency, cold coagulation of the heart and pulse, and emotional disorders.
1. Stagnation of Qi and Blood:
Long term obstruction of Qi circulation leads to obstruction of blood flow, resulting in heart and blood stasis. The treatment mainly focuses on promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, commonly using modified Xuefu Zhuyu Tang, combined with medicinal herbs such as Danshen and Sanqi. Daily practice of the Eight Section Brocade technique of "supporting the heavenly principles with both hands and three burners" can promote the circulation of qi and blood, and the recommended diet is hawthorn brown sugar drink to assist in removing blood stasis.
2. Phlegm turbidity resistance:
When the spleen is not functioning properly, phlegm dampness is generated internally, blocking the heart yang. It is advisable to use Gualou Xiebai Banxia decoction to relieve phlegm and promote yang, supplemented with Coix seed, Poria cocos and other herbs to strengthen the spleen and dispel dampness. Moxibustion at Zhongwan and Fenglong points can help to dissipate phlegm. It is suggested that Chenpi Yimi Congee can regulate the spleen and stomach.
3. Liver and kidney deficiency:
Elderly individuals with insufficient kidney essence may experience loss of heart and nourishment. Zuogui Wan Heshengmai San nourishes the kidneys and heart, and uses goji berries, mulberry parasites, and other ingredients to nourish the liver and kidneys. Regularly press the Taixi and Sanyinjiao acupoints, and dietary therapy can use black sesame and walnut paste to warm and nourish the liver and kidneys.
4. Cold congealed heart meridian:
Yang deficiency constitution is invaded by cold pathogens, and the heart meridian spasms rapidly. Danggui Sini Tang warms the meridians and disperses cold, combined with medicinal herbs such as cassia twigs and aconite. Moxibustion with ginger at the Danzhong acupoint to dispel cold and promote yang, and drinking cinnamon ginger tea in winter to keep the heart warm.
5. Emotional disorders:
Anxiety and anger lead to liver qi stagnation and rapid heart palpitations. Chaihu Shugan San relieves depression and soothes the mind, paired with rose and acacia bark to soothe the liver and relieve depression. Practice the six character mantra "Shh" every morning to relieve liver qi, and drink sour jujube kernel and lily tea before bedtime to calm the mind.
Elderly patients with coronary heart disease should pay attention to a low salt and low-fat diet, and regularly consume heart protecting ingredients such as oats and deep-sea fish, while avoiding high cholesterol foods such as animal organs. Moderately engage in soothing exercises such as Tai Chi and walking, and control heart rate within a safe range of 220% to 60% of age. Pay attention to keeping warm in winter and avoid excessive sweating that can harm the genitals in summer. Regularly monitor blood pressure and blood sugar, maintain emotional calmness and happiness, and avoid severe emotional fluctuations. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a physician, and patients with acute chest pain should seek medical attention immediately.
