Older people are prone to sweating due to insufficient qi, yin deficiency, excessive fire, dampness and heat accumulation, imbalance of the body's defense system, and weakened yang qi.
1. Qi deficiency and instability:
Aging and physical decline lead to lung and spleen qi deficiency, weakened external defense function, loose pores, and continuous sweating. Treatment should be focused on tonifying qi and stabilizing the surface. Yupingfeng Powder can be used with modifications, while Huangqi, atractylodes macrocephala, and Fangfeng are the main drugs. Stewed chicken soup with 30g of five finger peach or massage the Zusanli acupoint 100 times a day for daily use.
2. Yin deficiency and excessive fire:
Kidney yin deficiency leads to the leakage of deficiency fire and fluid, often resulting in night sweats. Fang Xuan Danggui Liuhuang Tang contains Danggui, Huangqin, Huanglian, and other ingredients. Dietary therapy involves stewing 15 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus with Tremella fuciformis, or practicing the six character formula of "blowing" to regulate the kidney meridian.

Abnormal spleen and stomach circulation leads to dampness and heat, manifested as excessive sweating and sticky skin on the head and face. San Ren Tang can be modified by combining almond, white chestnut, and coix seed. Avoid fat and sweet food, recommend red bean and barley porridge, and scrape the bladder meridian on the back.
4. Imbalance of Ying and Wei:
The imbalance of Qi and blood circulation leads to self sweating and bad wind. Guizhi Tang has a significant effect on harmonizing Ying and Wei. In daily life, 30g of floating wheat can be boiled in water as a substitute for tea, and practicing the Eight Section Brocade technique of "supporting the heavenly principles with both hands and three burners" can improve qi and blood circulation.
5. Yang Qi Deficiency and Decline:
Insufficient kidney yang and weak absorption, often accompanied by cold sweating. Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan warms and tonifies kidney yang, containing aconite, cinnamon, and other ingredients. Moxibustion at Guan Yuan acupoint for 20 minutes daily, and dietary therapy involves stewing 15 grams of walnut kernels with lamb.
Elderly sweating syndrome requires comprehensive regulation, and the diet should choose spleen strengthening ingredients such as yam and glutinous rice to avoid spicy and stimulating foods. The cloud hand technique of Tai Chi can enhance Qi and promote blood circulation by taking a 30 minute walk every day. When sweating, wipe dry in time to avoid getting cold, and choose pure cotton material for close fitting clothing. Long term abnormal sweating requires screening of primary diseases such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes, and treatment based on TCM syndrome differentiation can significantly improve symptoms.
