Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment Methods for Varicocele

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment of varicocele mainly includes oral administration of Chinese medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, massage, external application of Chinese medicine, diet conditioning, etc. Varicocele may be related to factors such as prolonged standing and sitting, venous valve dysfunction, and local blood circulation disorders, usually manifested as symptoms such as scrotal swelling and pain.

1. Oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that varicocele is often caused by qi stagnation, blood stasis, damp heat stagnation, or kidney deficiency. It is recommended to follow the doctor's advice and use traditional Chinese medicines that promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, such as Guizhi Fuling Wan and Xuefu Zhuyu Tang. For those with damp heat, Si Miao Wan can be added, and for those with kidney deficiency, Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan can be used. Traditional Chinese medicine should be treated based on individual constitution and avoid self medication.

2. acupuncture and moxibustion therapy

acupuncture and moxibustion improves local blood circulation and alleviates the sense of scrotum swelling by stimulating Sanyinjiao, Guanyuan, Qihai and other acupoints. Warm acupuncture and moxibustion or electroacupuncture can be used, 2-3 times a week, 10 times as a course of treatment. It should be operated by a professional traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to avoid accidental injury to blood vessels and nerves.

3. Massage

Gently massage the lower abdomen and groin area to promote venous return, combined with the technique of lifting the scrotum once in the morning and once in the evening. Pay attention to moderate force and avoid squeezing varicose veins. Can be paired with Ai Ye Jian Tang for fumigation and washing to enhance the effect, with water temperature controlled below 40 ℃.

4. External application of traditional Chinese medicine

Apply blood activating and stasis removing herbs such as safflower, Danshen, frankincense, etc. to the scrotum by grinding and adjusting the powder, or use a cold compress with a solution of saltpeter to relieve swelling. Individuals with skin damage are prohibited from using it, and those with allergies should first try it on a small scale. The external application time should not exceed 30 minutes to avoid low-temperature burns.

5. Dietary regulation

Eat more blood activating foods such as hawthorn, black fungus, onions, etc., and supplement with vitamin E to improve vascular elasticity. Limit spicy and high salt diets to avoid constipation and increased abdominal pressure. People with damp heat constitution can drink corn silk tea in moderation, while those with kidney deficiency can consume kidney tonifying ingredients such as black beans and walnuts.

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment should be observed for 3-6 months, during which vigorous exercise and prolonged standing should be avoided. For patients with severe varicocele or accompanied by infertility symptoms, it is recommended to combine Western surgical treatment. Special scrotal support straps can be worn in daily life to reduce the feeling of heaviness and bloating. Moving for 5 minutes every hour of sitting and standing promotes blood circulation. Elevating the buttocks during sleep helps with venous return. Regularly review semen quality and scrotal ultrasound, and adjust treatment plans in a timely manner.
