Older people are prone to sweating due to insufficient qi, yin deficiency, excessive fire, damp heat accumulation, dysfunction of the body and defense system, or decline in organ function.
1. Insufficiency of Qi:
Deficiency of lung and spleen qi leads to unstable external defense, loose pores, and sweating. The typical manifestation is sweating when moving and fear of the wind after sweating. Treatment should be focused on tonifying qi and stabilizing the surface. It is recommended to add and subtract Yupingfeng Powder, which contains 30g Huangqi, 15g atractylodes macrocephala, and 10g Fangfeng. It should be taken by decoction. 15 grams of Huangqi can be soaked in water as a substitute for tea in daily life, combined with moxibustion at Zusanli and Qihai acupoints.
2. Yin deficiency and excessive fire:
Kidney yin deficiency leads to the leakage of deficiency fire and fluid, often resulting in night sweats and restlessness of the five hearts. Fang Xuan Danggui Liuhuang Tang contains 12 grams of Danggui, 15 grams of raw earth, 6 grams of Huanglian, etc. For dietary therapy, use 15g of Ophiopogon japonicus and 20g of Lilies stewed with pears, combined with massage of Sanyinjiao and Taixi acupoints to nourish yin and reduce fire.
3. Damp heat connotation:
Abnormal spleen and stomach circulation leads to damp heat, manifested as excessive sweating on the head and face, and sticky sweat. You can use 10 grams each of San Ren Tang almond, Bai Shao Ren, and Yi Yi Ren to clear heat and dampness. The diet should be red bean and barley porridge, and the bladder meridian should be selected for scraping to remove dampness and heat.
4. Imbalance of the Ying and Wei:
Aging and weakened Qi and blood can lead to disharmony of the Ying and Wei, resulting in self sweating and bad wind. Guizhi Tang mixed with Yingwei contains 9 grams of Guizhi, 9 grams of Paeonia lactiflora, and 3 slices of ginger. Take 10 red dates from Tonic Diet and 30 grams of floating wheat to cook Congee. Taijiquan exercise can improve the circulation of qi and blood.
5. Deficiency of organs and organs:
Heart and kidney yang deficiency leads to cold sweat, requiring 10 grams of ginseng and 6 grams of aconite to warm up the yang and solidify the body. Daily intake of 3 grams of red ginseng tablets, moxibustion at Guanyuan and Mingmen acupoints. Severe cases may be signs of heart failure and require timely medical attention.
Elderly sweating syndrome requires attention to dietary maintenance. It is recommended to use yam and lotus seed soup to strengthen the spleen, American ginseng and Ophiopogon tea to nourish qi and yin, and avoid spicy and hot foods. Moderately practice the Eight Section Brocade technique of using both hands to support the Heavenly Principle and Three Jiao to regulate the qi flow. For those who sweat excessively at night, apply gallnut powder to the navel. The organic diseases such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes should be checked in case of chest distress, palpitation and sudden weight loss. Keep the living room ventilated and dry, wipe dry promptly after sweating to avoid getting cold, and choose breathable cotton and linen clothing to help improve symptoms.
