Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) blood letting therapy is an external treatment method that uses specific needles to puncture superficial blood vessels or acupoints and release a small amount of blood to treat diseases. It is mainly suitable for conditions such as empirical diagnosis, heat syndrome, and blood stasis obstruction.

1. Treatment principle
Acupuncture and bloodletting work by clearing meridians, harmonizing qi and blood, and detoxifying heat. Traditional Chinese medicine theory suggests that it can improve local qi and blood stasis, regulate yin and yang balance, and modern medical research shows that it may work by stimulating vascular and nerve reflexes, regulating inflammatory factors, and other pathways. Common tools include triangular needles, plum blossom needles, etc.
2. Indications
is suitable for acute sprains, herpes zoster, acne and other heat related conditions, as well as hypertension, headache, and stye. It also has a relieving effect on blood stasis type dysmenorrhea and joint swelling and pain. Multiple locations with abundant superficial blood vessels, such as the tips of the ears, fingertips, and temples, should be selected for operation.
III. Operating Standards
Strictly disinfect the skin, quickly prick 2-3 millimeters deep, and control the amount of bleeding within 3-5 drops. According to the condition, use the methods of point prick, scattered prick, or pick prick. Before operation, the patient's coagulation function should be evaluated to avoid arterial blood vessels. Use with caution for individuals with weak physical constitution.

4. Taboo population
is prohibited for patients with anemia, hypotension, hemophilia, and pregnant women. Patients with skin infection and diabetes whose wounds are not easy to heal should be cautious. It is not advisable to operate on an empty stomach or when excessively fatigued, as it may cause needle sickness.
Fifth, combination therapy
is often combined with cupping to enhance the effect of removing blood stasis, or complementary to the warming and promoting effect of moxibustion. Within 24 hours after treatment, avoid contact with raw water and drink red dates and wolfberry soup to nourish qi and blood. It needs to be operated by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in a formal medical institution. After bloodletting, attention should be paid to keeping the puncture site dry and clean to avoid infection. During the treatment period, it is advisable to have a light diet and avoid spicy and stimulating foods. If there is continuous bleeding or dizziness, seek medical attention promptly. As a characteristic technique of traditional Chinese medicine, this therapy must be used under the guidance of professional syndrome differentiation and cannot be operated by oneself.
