How to deal with myopia found during college students' physical examination

After discovering myopia during a physical examination, college students should seek medical attention promptly. The degree should be determined through dilated pupil refraction, and frame glasses, contact lenses, or corneal reshaping lenses should be selected according to the doctor's advice to correct vision. Refractive surgery may be considered if necessary.

Myopia is a type of refractive error, mainly caused by the long anterior posterior diameter of the eyeball or the steep curvature of the cornea, resulting in parallel rays being focused in front of the retina. Myopia detected during physical examination is usually in the mild to moderate stage, and most cases can be controlled and developed through optical correction. Frame glasses are the most common way of correction, suitable for daily study and life use. The lens material can be resin or PC, which has impact resistance. Contact lenses are suitable for sports or special occasions, but daily cleaning and care should be taken to avoid infection. Corneal reshaping lenses can temporarily change the shape of the cornea by wearing them at night, and clear vision can be obtained during the day, but strict adherence to the fitting process is required. For patients with stable myopia and meeting surgical indications, full femtosecond laser or ICL lens implantation can be chosen, but comprehensive preoperative evaluation of corneal thickness and fundus condition is required.

It is recommended to have a vision change check every six months, avoid prolonged close eye contact, and maintain outdoor activities for at least 2 hours per day. Maintain a distance of at least 30 centimeters while reading, and take a 5-minute break every 40 minutes while looking into the distance. Moderate supplementation of foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots and spinach, in the diet, and avoiding eye contact in dim or shaky environments. If there are abnormalities such as visual distortion and flashing sensation, immediate medical attention should be sought to investigate retinal lesions.
