How is moisture expelled from the body

Moisture is mainly excreted from the body through sweat, urine, respiration, and feces. Dampness is a pathological product described in traditional Chinese medicine theory as an imbalance in water and fluid metabolism in the body, and its excretion pathway is closely related to normal physiological functions of the human body. Sweat is one of the important pathways for the elimination of moisture. The human body excretes sweat through skin pores, which not only contains water but also a small amount of metabolic waste. When exercising or the ambient temperature rises, the amount of sweat excreted increases, which helps to expel moisture. Urine is the main way of eliminating moisture, and the kidneys filter blood to form urine, which excretes excess water and metabolic products from the body. Adequate daily drinking water can promote urine production and accelerate moisture metabolism. During the breathing process, a small amount of water vapor is also expelled, which is an implicit pathway for the elimination of moisture. Feces contain a certain amount of water, and normal bowel movements help to expel dampness from the intestines. When gastrointestinal function is normal, water in food residues can be promptly excreted through feces.

It is recommended to maintain moderate exercise to promote sweating, drink 1500-2000 milliliters of water daily to maintain urine production, pay attention to keeping the abdomen warm to maintain gastrointestinal function, and avoid prolonged sitting that affects the circulation of qi and blood. The diet should be light and avoid consuming fatty, sweet, and rich foods. It is recommended to consume water permeable ingredients such as Job's tears and adzuki beans in moderation. If there are long-term symptoms such as heavy head and body fatigue, thick and greasy tongue coating, etc., timely medical treatment should be sought for adjustment.
