Can traditional Chinese medicine cure granulomatous mastitis

Traditional Chinese medicine can alleviate the symptoms of granulomatous mastitis, but it is usually not completely cured. Granulomatous mastitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that may be related to factors such as autoimmune response, infection, and breast duct obstruction. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment mainly improves the condition by regulating the constitution and reducing inflammatory response, but it needs to be combined with Western medicine treatment to enhance efficacy.

Traditional Chinese medicine often uses formulas such as clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, softening hardness and dispersing nodules to treat granulomatous mastitis, such as Xianfang Huosheng Yin and Xuefu Zhuyu Tang, which can help shrink the lump and relieve pain. Some patients' symptoms have significantly improved after being treated with traditional Chinese medicine, but there may still be a risk of recurrence in the lesions. Western medicine treatments such as antibiotics, corticosteroids, or surgical resection are more direct and effective in controlling acute infections or refractory lesions. For granulomatous mastitis with a long course or recurrent episodes, relying solely on traditional Chinese medicine may be difficult to cure. If the effect of traditional Chinese medicine treatment is not satisfactory after a period of time, or serious conditions such as abscess and skin rupture occur, timely intervention with Western medicine should be combined. Clinical advice is to choose a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine based on the stage of the disease. For example, in the acute phase, Western medicine is mainly used for anti-inflammatory treatment, while in the chronic phase, traditional Chinese medicine is supplemented to regulate the constitution. Patients should avoid squeezing their breasts in daily life, choose loose underwear, and keep the area clean and dry. Diet should be light, reduce intake of spicy and stimulating foods, and supplement vitamins appropriately to enhance immunity. Regularly review breast ultrasound or mammography to monitor changes in the condition. If the lump continues to enlarge or is accompanied by fever, immediate medical attention should be sought to adjust the treatment plan.
