Can I drink alcohol by taking Shugan Yiyang capsules

It is not recommended to drink alcohol during the period of taking Shugan Yiyang capsules. Shugan Yiyang Capsules are mainly used to improve symptoms caused by liver depression, qi stagnation, and insufficient kidney yang. Alcohol may affect drug metabolism and increase liver burden.

Shugan Yiyang Capsules contain various traditional Chinese medicine ingredients, such as Chaihu and Epimedium, which have the effects of soothing the liver, relieving depression, warming and tonifying kidney yang. Alcohol can be metabolized through the liver and may interact with drug components, reducing efficacy or increasing the risk of adverse reactions. Long term alcohol consumption itself can damage liver function. If taken together with medication, it may further increase the detoxification pressure on the liver, leading to elevated transaminase levels or drug accumulation. Some patients may experience mild dizziness and gastrointestinal discomfort after taking medication, and drinking alcohol may exacerbate these side effects.

In special circumstances, if alcohol must be consumed, it is recommended to wait at least 4 hours and strictly control the amount of alcohol consumed. But for patients with abnormal liver function, hypertension, or cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, drinking alcohol should be absolutely avoided. During the medication period, it is also important to avoid spicy and stimulating foods and maintain a regular daily routine to complement the effectiveness of the medication.

Shugan Yiyang Capsules usually need to be taken according to the treatment course. It is recommended to maintain a light diet and avoid any alcoholic beverages during the treatment period. If there are abnormal liver function symptoms such as yellowing of the skin and persistent fatigue, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical examination should be sought. Moderate exercise such as Ba Duan Jin and walking can be combined in daily life to promote the circulation of qi and blood, but it is necessary to avoid vigorous exercise that consumes yang energy. Regularly check liver and kidney function during medication to ensure medication safety.
