Borderline personality disorder is a level of mental illness

Borderline personality disorder belongs to Class B personality disorder in the classification of mental illnesses, and is not a disease in the traditional psychiatric grading system. Borderline personality disorder is mainly characterized by emotional instability, interpersonal conflicts, and self-identity confusion, and usually requires psychological therapy combined with medication intervention. The core characteristics of borderline personality disorder include strong fear of abandonment, unstable self-image, and impulsive behavior. Patients may experience brief psychotic episodes, such as paranoid ideation or dissociative symptoms, but these symptoms are usually stress reactive and have a shorter duration. The diagnosis needs to be comprehensively judged by a psychiatrist through clinical interviews and evaluation tools. Common treatment methods include dialectical behavioral therapy and psychogenic basic therapy.

Some severe patients may experience self harm or suicidal behavior, in which case emergency psychiatric intervention is needed. Long term untreated treatment may lead to severe impairment of social function, but through systematic treatment, most patients' symptoms can be significantly improved. Early identification and intervention are crucial for prognosis, and family support and social rehabilitation training are also important auxiliary means. Patients with borderline personality disorder should establish a regular daily routine, avoid alcohol and drug abuse, and cultivate mindfulness and stress relief skills. Family members need to understand the characteristics of the disease, avoid being overly involved in the patient's emotional fluctuations, and encourage the patient to adhere to the treatment plan. Regular follow-up visits can help doctors adjust treatment plans, and short-term hospitalization may be considered if necessary to stabilize acute symptoms.
