Will long-term consumption of AD affect children's intelligence

Long term moderate intake of vitamin AD in children usually does not affect intellectual development, and excessive supplementation may cause adverse reactions. Vitamin AD is mainly used to prevent rickets and night blindness, and the recommended doses of vitamin A and vitamin D in its components must be strictly followed. Vitamin A in vitamin AD preparations participates in visual function and immune regulation, while vitamin D promotes calcium absorption to support bone development. At regular doses, these two nutrients have a positive effect on the development of the nervous system in children. The Chinese Dietary Guidelines for Residents suggest that the daily intake of vitamin A for infants and young children aged 0-3 should be 1000-1200 units, and vitamin D should be 400-800 units. Reasonable supplementation can meet the needs of growth and development. When the intake of vitamin AD exceeds the daily maximum tolerance level, symptoms of vitamin A poisoning such as headache, drowsiness, or hypercalcemia caused by excessive vitamin D may occur. If these abnormal conditions persist, they may indirectly interfere with neurological function. However, clinical data shows that cases of intellectual impairment resulting from standardized use of vitamin AD preparations under the guidance of doctors are extremely rare.

It is recommended that parents regularly take their children for child health check ups, and have a doctor evaluate whether continuous supplementation of vitamin AD is necessary. Daily nutrition can be obtained through a balanced diet, such as animal liver, deep-sea fish, egg yolks, and other foods rich in vitamin A, as well as sun exposure to promote the synthesis of vitamin D in the body. Avoid increasing the dosage of supplements on your own, and seek medical attention promptly if any abnormal symptoms occur.
