Which type of pure milk is suitable for pregnant women to drink

Pregnant women are suitable to choose full fat sterilized pure milk or high calcium pure milk, which is nutritious and safe. When selecting, key indicators such as protein content, calcium content, sterilization method, fat content, and additive situation should be taken into account.

1. Protein Content

High quality pure milk should contain at least 3 grams of protein per 100 milliliters, and an additional 25 grams of protein intake should be added daily during pregnancy. Casein and whey protein in milk belong to complete proteins, containing 8 essential amino acids for the human body, which contribute to fetal organ formation and maternal tissue repair. Some brands will indicate the ratio of whey protein, which is easier to digest and absorb.

2. Calcium Content

The daily calcium requirement during pregnancy is 1000-1200 milligrams, and high calcium milk can contain over 120 milligrams of calcium per 100 milliliters. The calcium in milk exists in the form of casein calcium, which, when combined with vitamin D, can enhance absorption rate. When choosing products that have been strengthened with calcium, it is important to avoid taking them together with iron supplements that may affect absorption.

3. Sterilization Method

Ultra high temperature sterilized milk has a long shelf life but may damage some B vitamins, while pasteurized milk retains more active substances but needs to be refrigerated for storage. Pregnant women have lower immunity and should avoid drinking fresh milk that has not been sterilized to prevent infection by pathogenic microorganisms such as Listeria monocytogenes.

4. Fat Content

Whole milk contains 3% -4% fat, providing saturated fatty acids necessary for fetal brain development. Lactose intolerant pregnant women can choose low lactose milk, but should not drink skim milk for a long time to avoid affecting the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Some brands may add nutrients such as DHA, so please pay attention to the ingredient list.

5. Additives

The preferred ingredients list only contains raw milk products, avoiding essence, thickener and other additives. Blended milk may contain added sugars and nutritional enhancers, which should be selected according to individual circumstances. Organic certified milk has a lower risk of pesticide residue, but the price is higher, and can be chosen according to economic conditions.

Pregnant women are recommended to drink 300-500 milliliters of milk per day, divided into 2-3 times to avoid bloating. After removing the refrigerated milk, let it sit at room temperature before drinking to avoid stimulating the gastrointestinal tract. Paired with whole wheat bread or oatmeal, it can delay the rise of blood sugar. Lactose intolerant individuals can try drinking small amounts multiple times or choose fermented dairy products. When purchasing, pay attention to checking the integrity of the packaging and shelf life. After opening, refrigerate and consume within 48 hours. If discomfort symptoms such as diarrhea and rash occur, stop immediately and consult a doctor.
