What symptoms can excessive fatigue cause

Overwork may lead to symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, gastrointestinal disorders, weakened immunity, and emotional fluctuations. Long term overwork may also lead to health problems such as cardiovascular disease and endocrine disorders.

1. Headache

Excessive mental or physical exertion can cause tension headaches, manifested as persistent dull pain or pressure on the head. Abnormal vasoconstriction and muscle tension in the brain are common causes of prolonged work pressure and lack of sleep. It is recommended to relieve symptoms through regular sleep, hot compress on the temples, moderate massage, etc. If accompanied by nausea and vomiting, be alert to migraine attacks.

2. Insomnia

Excessive excitation of the sympathetic nervous system during fatigue can cause difficulty falling asleep or shallow sleep. Disruption in the secretion of stress hormones such as cortisol can disrupt the biological clock, forming a vicious cycle of getting tired and unable to sleep. Establishing a fixed bedtime, soaking feet in hot water before bedtime, and avoiding excessive use of the brain at night can help improve insomnia. Pathological factors such as anxiety should be investigated for persistent insomnia.

3. Gastrointestinal disorders

Long term fatigue can weaken gastrointestinal motility, leading to decreased appetite, bloating, or diarrhea. Abnormal gastric acid secretion under stress may induce gastritis, while an imbalance in gut microbiota can lead to digestive and absorption disorders. Eating small meals frequently and avoiding spicy and stimulating foods can alleviate symptoms. If recurrent, it is necessary to check for the presence of Helicobacter pylori infection.

4. Decreased immunity

Continuous fatigue can inhibit lymphocyte activity, manifested as recurrent colds and frequent oral ulcers. Long term elevation of stress hormones can lower immunoglobulin levels, weakening the body's defense against pathogens. Ensuring daily intake of vitamin C and high-quality protein, and engaging in moderate aerobic exercise can help the immune system recover.

5. Emotional fluctuations

Mental exhaustion can easily lead to emotional problems such as irritability and lack of attention. Excessive fatigue can impair the function of the prefrontal cortex, leading to a decrease in emotional regulation ability, and in severe cases, may result in a tendency towards depression. Mindfulness meditation and intermittent rest can alleviate emotional stress, and professional psychological assessment is necessary for sustained low mood.

To prevent fatigue related symptoms, a balance mechanism between work and rest should be established, with 5 minutes of activity every hour of work to ensure 7 hours of high-quality sleep per day. Increase the intake of whole grains, dark vegetables, and nuts in diet, and supplement B vitamins and magnesium elements. Regularly engage in moderate intensity exercises such as brisk walking and swimming, and avoid working at high intensity for several consecutive days. If fatigue symptoms persist for more than two weeks and do not improve, or if warning signs such as palpitations and chest pain appear, medical attention should be sought promptly to investigate organic diseases.
