A weak positive result in male occult blood in urine may be caused by urinary tract infections, urinary system stones, prostate diseases, intense exercise, or specimen contamination. The diagnosis can be confirmed through urine routine examination, urinary system ultrasound, prostate examination, and other methods.
1. Urinary tract infection:
Bacteria invading the urethra or bladder may cause mucosal congestion and bleeding, with a slight increase in the number of red blood cells in the urine showing weak positivity. Common symptoms accompanied by frequent urination and urgency require urine culture examination. The treatment mainly involves antibiotics such as levofloxacin and cefuroxime, while increasing daily water intake.
2. Urinary system stones:
When small kidney or ureteral stones move, they may scratch the mucosa and cause slight bleeding. Usually accompanied by lower back pain, it can be diagnosed through CT examination. Stones smaller than 6 millimeters can be treated by drinking plenty of water in combination with anti stone drugs such as urinary stone pills, while larger stones require extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
3. Prostate diseases:
Prostate hyperplasia or inflammation may compress the urethra, leading to capillary rupture. Middle aged and elderly men are more common, accompanied by symptoms of difficulty urinating. Prostate digital examination and PSA testing are required, and treatment includes the combination of alpha blockers such as tamsulosin and antibiotics.
4. Intense exercise:
High intensity exercise may cause temporary ischemia and hypoxia in the kidneys, increase glomerular filtration membrane permeability, and lead to hematuria. This type of physiological hematuria usually disappears on its own after 48 hours of rest, and can turn negative on a follow-up urine routine without the need for special treatment.
5. Sample contamination:
Menstrual testing, unclean sampling containers, or improper collection methods may result in false positive results. It is recommended to clean the external genitalia and take mid stream urine for follow-up examination. Women should avoid menstrual testing to eliminate interfering factors and obtain more accurate results.
If there is weak positive occult blood in urine, it is recommended to avoid spicy and stimulating foods, maintain a daily water intake of at least 2000 milliliters, and limit vigorous exercise. Observe whether there are accompanying symptoms such as painful urination and lower back pain. It is recommended to have a follow-up urine routine examination 3-5 days later. Continuous positive results require further urinary system imaging examinations, and males over 40 years old should undergo additional screening for prostate-specific antigen. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the perineum in daily life, avoid holding urine for a long time, and undergo regular urinary system health check ups.
