What is the reason for lower back pain and lower abdominal pain

Lower back pain and lower abdominal pain may be related to factors such as pelvic inflammatory disease, urinary system stones, lumbar disc herniation, gastrointestinal dysfunction, endometriosis, etc. These symptoms are usually caused by inflammatory stimuli, mechanical compression, or abnormal hormone levels, manifested as local pain, radiating pain, or accompanying urinary abnormalities.

1. Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pelvic inflammatory disease is often caused by bacterial infection, and inflammatory stimulation can lead to persistent dull pain in the lower abdomen, radiating to the waist. The patient may have symptoms such as fever and abnormal vaginal discharge. Treatment should follow the doctor's advice and use antibiotics such as ceftriaxone sodium injection, metronidazole tablets, etc., combined with local hot compress to relieve symptoms. During the acute phase, it is necessary to rest in bed and avoid sexual activity.

2. Urinary system stones

Kidney or ureteral stones may cause lower back colic and radiate to the lower abdomen and perineum when they move. Typical symptoms include hematuria, frequent urination, and urgency. Treatment can be achieved through extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or ureteroscopic lithotripsy. Daily water intake should be increased to over 2000 milliliters to reduce intake of high oxalate foods.

3. Lumbar disc herniation

Compression of nerve roots by lumbar disc herniation can cause lower back pain, which may radiate along the sciatic nerve to the lower abdomen. Commonly seen in patients with long-term weight-bearing or poor posture, conservative treatment such as lumbar traction and massage can be used to improve it. In severe cases, intervertebral foramen endoscopic nucleus pulposus removal surgery is required. During the acute phase, one should sleep on a hard bed and avoid bending over to lift heavy objects.

4. Gastrointestinal dysfunction

Irritable bowel syndrome or chronic colitis may lead to lower abdominal distension and pain accompanied by lower back involvement, with symptoms often related to improper diet. Follow the doctor's advice to take Bifidobacterium triple active bacteria capsules and Pivium bromide tablets to regulate intestinal function. Eat regularly in daily life and avoid spicy and irritating foods.

5. Endometriosis

Endometrial tissue implantation in the pelvic cavity can cause periodic lower abdominal pain and lower back pain, which often worsen during menstruation. Treatment can use drugs such as progesterone capsules to inhibit endometrial growth, or laparoscopic surgery to remove lesions. It is recommended to avoid vigorous exercise during menstruation and apply local hot compress to relieve spasmodic pain.

When experiencing combined pain in the waist and abdomen, the nature, duration, and accompanying symptoms of the pain should be recorded to avoid self medication to mask the condition. Female patients should pay attention to menstrual hygiene, while males should be screened for prostate diseases. Maintain moderate exercise daily to enhance core muscle strength, and choose a moderately firm mattress during sleep. If the pain persists for more than 3 days or is accompanied by symptoms such as fever and hematuria, immediate medical attention should be sought to complete ultrasound, CT, and other examinations to determine the cause.
