What diseases can be caused by sedentary work

Sedentary work can easily lead to various diseases, mainly including lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, varicose veins, obesity, cardiovascular disease, etc.

1. Lumbar disc herniation

Prolonged sitting posture can increase lumbar pressure, leading to uneven stress on the intervertebral disc and potentially causing lumbar disc herniation. Long term tension in the lumbar muscles during prolonged sitting can easily cause degenerative changes in the lumbar intervertebral disc. Lumbar disc herniation can cause symptoms such as lower back pain and numbness in the lower limbs, and in severe cases may affect normal walking.

2. Cervical spondylosis

When sitting for a long time in the office, tilting the head forward can increase the burden on the cervical spine, which may lead to changes in the physiological curvature of the cervical spine over time. Common symptoms of cervical spondylosis include neck pain, dizziness, and numbness in the arms. Computer workers especially need to pay attention to maintaining correct sitting posture and avoid bowing their heads for long periods of time.

3. Varicose veins

Prolonged sitting can slow down blood circulation in the lower limbs, increase venous pressure, and easily lead to varicose veins in the lower limbs. Varicose veins are characterized by prominent blood vessels and skin discoloration in the lower limbs. Women, pregnant women, and overweight individuals are more prone to developing varicose veins and require special attention to prevention.

4. Obesity

Sitting for long periods of time consumes less energy and can easily lead to excess calories, causing obesity problems. Obesity will increase the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. It is recommended to get up and exercise for 5-10 minutes every hour to help maintain normal metabolism.

5. Cardiovascular disease

Long term sitting can reduce cardiovascular function and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Prolonged sitting may lead to increased blood viscosity and elevated blood pressure, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Regular exercise can help improve blood circulation and reduce the risk of illness. To prevent health problems caused by prolonged sitting, it is recommended to get up and move for 5-10 minutes every hour of work, and engage in simple stretching exercises. Regular aerobic exercise should be maintained, such as brisk walking, swimming, etc. Pay attention to adjusting the height of office desks and chairs and maintaining correct sitting posture. Diet should control calorie intake, eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Regular physical examinations can detect potential health problems early and take timely intervention measures. For people who have already shown obvious symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical attention and examination as soon as possible.
