What diseases can be caused by overwork

Overwork may induce various diseases, mainly including gastrointestinal dysfunction, neurasthenia, cardiovascular disease, weakened immunity, endocrine disorders, etc. When working under long-term overload or experiencing excessive mental stress, pathological changes may occur in various systems of the body due to compensatory imbalance.

1. Gastrointestinal dysfunction

Continuous fatigue can interfere with autonomic nervous system regulation, leading to abnormal gastric acid secretion and gastrointestinal motility disorders. Typical symptoms include recurrent bloating, diarrhea, or constipation, and some individuals may experience functional dyspepsia. Adjusting daily routine and combining it with abdominal massage can improve symptoms, and in severe cases, medication that regulates gastrointestinal motility should be used.

2. Neurasthenia

Long term tension in the cerebral cortex can easily lead to neurasthenia, characterized by persistent headaches, inattention, and sleep disorders. This situation is closely related to continuous psychological pressure. It is suggested to relieve tension through mindfulness meditation, and if necessary, take traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations for short-term relief.

3. Cardiovascular disease

Overwork can accelerate endothelial damage and increase the risk of myocardial ischemia. Early clinical manifestations such as palpitations and chest tightness may develop into hypertension or coronary heart disease in the long term. Regular aerobic exercise can help enhance heart function. If there is obvious chest pain, seek medical attention immediately to check for angina.

4. Decreased immunity

Under fatigue, lymphocyte activity decreases, making the human body more susceptible to pathogen invasion. Symptoms include recurrent colds and persistent oral ulcers. Ensuring 7 hours of high-quality sleep and moderate intake of vitamin C daily can help restore immune balance.

5. Endocrine disorders

Continuous abnormal secretion of adrenal cortex hormones may lead to menstrual disorders, blood sugar fluctuations, and other problems. This situation is common among people who stay up late for a long time, and can be gradually regulated by regular eating and avoiding caffeine intake. Stubborn disorders require intervention from endocrinology.

To prevent fatigue related diseases, it is necessary to establish a work rest rhythm, with 5 minutes of activity every hour of continuous work, and 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise such as brisk walking or swimming every day. Increase the intake of whole grains and dark vegetables in diet, and supplement B vitamins in moderation. When symptoms of fatigue persist for more than two weeks, it is recommended to undergo basic tests such as thyroid function and electrocardiogram. Be careful to avoid relying on caffeine or energy drinks to forcefully refresh yourself, as such practices may exacerbate autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
