The role, benefits, and efficacy of moxibustion on Feishu

Moxibustion at the Feishu acupoint has the effects of warming and promoting lung qi, relieving cough and asthma, and enhancing immunity. It is commonly used to improve symptoms such as cough and asthma, cold and nasal congestion, and back pain. The Feishu acupoint is located 1.5 inches below the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra and is an important acupoint for regulating lung diseases.

1. Warming and promoting lung qi

Moxibustion of the lung Yu point can warm up the meridians of the lungs, promote the circulation of qi and blood, and improve cough, phlegm, shortness of breath, and fatigue caused by lung qi deficiency and cold. For diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, moxibustion can help dilute sputum and alleviate airway spasms. During operation, use a slight redness of the local skin to avoid burns.

2. Cough and Asthma Relief

By stimulating the Feishu acupoint with Ai Re, it can regulate the contraction of bronchial smooth muscle and alleviate wheezing symptoms during asthma attacks. It also has a relieving effect on nasal congestion and runny nose associated with allergic rhinitis. It is recommended to apply moxibustion simultaneously with Dazhui acupoint and Dingchuan acupoint, 2-3 times a week.

Thirdly, enhancing immunity

Continuous moxibustion on Feishu can improve external defense function and reduce the probability of respiratory tract infections. Research has shown that the volatile components in Artemisia argyi can stimulate macrophage activity, making it suitable for people with weak constitutions who are prone to colds. Preventive moxibustion has a more significant effect during the transition between spring and autumn seasons.

Fourthly, relieve back pain

When muscle strain or cold exposure occurs in the lung shu acupoint area, moxibustion can dilate local capillaries and accelerate lactate metabolism. For shoulder and back stiffness and pain experienced by desk workers, cupping therapy can enhance the effect of relaxing muscles and activating collaterals. Attention: Use this method with caution for those with yin deficiency and excessive fire.

V. Regulating Emotions

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the lungs are the main source of sorrow and worry. Moxibustion of the lung meridian can stabilize the mind and alleviate chest tightness and suffocation caused by anxiety and depression. It can be alternated with moxibustion at the Danzhong acupoint, and combined with deep breathing exercises for better results. Drinking warm honey water after moxibustion can help nourish yin and moisten dryness.

It is recommended to choose aged moxa sticks for moxibustion at the Feishu acupoint, suspended 3-5 centimeters away from the skin, for 15-20 minutes each time. Pay attention to keeping warm and avoiding wind before and after moxibustion, and do not operate on an empty stomach or when overeating. Patients with chronic lung disease need to persist for a long time, and the use of guidance techniques such as Ba Duan Jin can enhance the therapeutic effect. If symptoms such as dry mouth and sore throat occur, the amount of moxibustion should be reduced and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners should be consulted in a timely manner to adjust the plan.
