Green tea is generally recommended to be stored in the refrigerator as it can delay oxidation and maintain its flavor. The storage method of green tea is mainly affected by factors such as tea moisture content, environmental temperature and humidity, lighting conditions, packaging sealing, and storage time. Green tea is prone to moisture and oxidation at room temperature, leading to the volatilization of aroma and darkening of color. The low-temperature environment of the refrigerator can effectively inhibit enzyme activity in tea leaves, slow down chlorophyll decomposition and tea polyphenol oxidation. Before putting unopened green tea in the refrigerator, ensure that the packaging is completely sealed to avoid absorbing odors. Short term storage can be stored in a cool, dry, and dark container, but it is recommended to refrigerate if it exceeds one month. Please note that after removing from the refrigerator, it should be allowed to stand at room temperature before opening to prevent condensation from seeping into the tea leaves. High temperature and high humidity environments can accelerate the deterioration of green tea, especially during the rainy season or summer when the room temperature exceeds 25 degrees Celsius. Loose green tea or opened tea bags must be sealed and refrigerated in aluminum foil bags or tin cans. Green tea with a high degree of fermentation, such as Biluochun, can be stored in dry areas for a short period of time without refrigeration, but the flavor retention time will be shortened. Repeatedly taking tea from the refrigerator can cause temperature fluctuations, which can actually affect its quality.

When storing green tea, prioritize small portion packaging to reduce the number of times it is opened. Whether refrigerated or not, stay away from direct sunlight and items with irritating odors. Before drinking, observe whether the tea leaves have mold or odor. Well preserved green tea should maintain its emerald green color and fragrance. Timely sealing after daily use, combined with food grade desiccants, can further extend the shelf life.
