Selection method for canned peaches

When selecting canned peaches, special attention should be paid to indicators such as raw material quality, sugar concentration, packaging integrity, and shelf life. High quality canned yellow peaches should have full and undamaged flesh, clear sugar water without impurities, and no rust or dents on the can body. Fresh products with short shelf life should be preferred.

1. Fruit state

High quality canned yellow peaches have uniform orange yellow flesh, intact block shape without mechanical damage, and a tight and firm texture without being soft or rotten. The edges of the fruit pulp should maintain a natural curvature, and excessively neat cutting marks may indicate manual splicing. Observe whether there are browning spots or fibrosis in the flesh, as these products are often stored for too long or processed improperly.

2. Sugar water quality

Sugar water should be transparent, clear, and free of suspended solids, with moderate viscosity and no wall sticking. If the color of the sugar solution is too dark, it may use inferior sugar or undergo Maillard reaction, while if the color is too light, it may have insufficient sugar. After opening the can, smell the scent and it should have a fresh peach aroma. If there is an alcohol or sour smell, it indicates that it has gone bad.

3. Packaging Details

Metal cans need to be checked for swelling, rust spots, or weld leakage, while glass cans should be observed for intact sealing rings. The bottom of the can should have a clear display of the production date, preferably made from fresh ingredients of the current season. The lid of vacuum packaged cans should be concave, and if it is protruding, it may have leaked and spoiled.

4. Ingredients

The first place on the ingredient list should be yellow peach, and the fewer sugar additives, the better. Avoid products containing preservatives such as sodium benzoate and coloring agents like lemon yellow. Low sugar canned food has a monographic sugar content, and patients with diabetes can choose products with sugar substitute formula.

5. Storage Conditions

Choose refrigerated cans for cold chain transportation to keep them fresher. Products stored at room temperature should be protected from light and stored in a cool and shady place. When checking the shelf life, short warranty products within 18 months are usually fresher. If the can is not consumed completely after opening, it should be transferred to a glass container for refrigeration. It is recommended to consume it within 48 hours.

When making daily purchases, the solid content of different brands of products can be compared, and the higher the value, the greater the proportion of fruit pulp. Pay attention to observing for any abnormal bubbles or flocculent substances before consumption, especially in high temperature environments during summer. Special populations such as infants and young children should choose sugar free canned foods specifically designed for infants and young children. Those with allergies should confirm that they do not contain allergenic ingredients such as sulfites. Reasonable combination of yogurt or oats can enhance nutritional value, but it is not suitable to replace long-term large intake of fresh fruits.
