Is lemon water a bit bitter to drink

Lemon soaked in water is generally drinkable, and the bitterness mainly comes from the release of limonin and seeds in the lemon peel. If there is no deterioration or excessive consumption, it usually does not affect health.

Lemon peel and seeds contain natural limonoid substances, which have a slight antioxidant effect, but high temperature soaking or prolonged storage can exacerbate the release of bitterness. After slicing fresh lemons, remove the seeds and soak them in warm water for a short period of time to reduce bitterness. Some people may experience gastrointestinal discomfort due to sensitivity to bitterness, and can adjust the taste with a small amount of rock sugar or honey.

The bitter taste produced by soaking spoiled lemon water may be accompanied by abnormal odors, viscous liquids, etc., which are not recommended for consumption. Improper storage leading to mold growth or excessive use of pesticides on lemon peel may pose health risks. Individuals with special constitutions such as excessive stomach acid may experience irritation to the gastric mucosa from long-term consumption of concentrated lemon water.

It is recommended to use fresh lemons for daily consumption of lemon water. Before slicing, rub the skin with salt to remove residue, and the soaking time should be controlled within 2 hours. People with weak gastrointestinal function can choose to drink after meals, with a daily intake not exceeding 1000 milliliters. Pairing chrysanthemums, goji berries, and other ingredients can balance acidity and avoid stimulating the gastrointestinal mucosa when consumed on an empty stomach. If you experience persistent abdominal pain or acid reflux, stop drinking and consult a doctor.
