Shoulder periarthritis can be treated through hot compress therapy, massage, acupuncture therapy, external application of traditional Chinese medicine, functional exercise, and other methods. Shoulder periarthritis is usually caused by invasion of wind cold dampness pathogens, chronic strain, insufficient qi and blood, sequelae of trauma, liver and kidney deficiency, and other reasons.
1. Hot compress therapy
uses moxibustion or coarse salt hot compress packs to apply heat to the affected area for 20 minutes daily, which can promote local blood circulation. Wind cold type shoulder periarthritis can be treated with moxa stick suspension moxibustion on the shoulder and shoulder acupoints, combined with infrared therapy lamp irradiation for better results. Be careful not to burn the skin, and do not use hot compress during acute inflammation.
2. Tuina massage
is performed by professional physicians using techniques such as rolling and kneading to loosen shoulder adhesions. Focus on massaging acupoints such as Tianzong and Jianjing, and use the shoulder shaking method to passively move the joints. Treat 3 times a week, with 10 times as one course of treatment. When massaging on your own, gently massage the Jiquan acupoint in front of the shoulder and armpit to relieve pain.
3. Acupuncture therapy
Select three needles for the shoulder, shoulder ridge, shoulder ridge, and shoulder Zhen, combined with Tiaokou Tongchengshan acupuncture, and leave the needle for 30 minutes. Warm acupuncture and moxibustion can be added to the cold dampness type, while pricking and cupping can be applied to the qi blood stasis type. It should be operated by a licensed traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to avoid accidental damage to nerves and blood vessels. Generally, treatment is given once every other day, and significant improvement can be observed after five treatments.
4. External application of traditional Chinese medicine
Grind medicinal herbs such as cassia twig, safflower, and bone penetrating herb into powder and apply yellow wine externally, or apply a dampness relieving and pain relieving ointment to the painful area. It is recommended to use regular traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations such as Xiaotong Plaster and Dongfang Huoxue Plaster, which should be replaced once a day. People with skin allergies should use it with caution. If itching occurs after applying the medication, it should be stopped immediately.
5. Functional exercise
includes rehabilitation training such as wall climbing and pendulum exercises, with 3 groups per day and 10 sessions per group. During the pain relief period, you can do towel pulling exercises, holding both ends of the towel with both hands and doing upward movements. Exercise should be done gradually, with mild pain as the degree, to avoid secondary injuries caused by violent pulling. During the treatment period, attention should be paid to keeping the shoulders warm, avoiding lifting heavy objects and excessive use of air conditioning. Keep the affected side in an upward position during sleep, and use a pillow to support the arm. Diet should be warm and nourishing, with moderate consumption of lamb and ginger as warm and cold dispersing ingredients. Avoid eating raw and cold foods. If conservative treatment for 3 months is ineffective or there is obvious shoulder joint movement disorder, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly to evaluate whether joint cavity injection or needle knife release treatment is needed.
