How to remove the skin from the new walnut

New walnuts can be soaked in boiling water, naturally dried in the shade, or heated in an oven to remove the inner lining. Walnut endothelium contains tannic acid, which may affect the taste when consumed directly, but nutrients are more easily absorbed after peeling.

1. Boiling water soaking method

Soak shelled walnuts in boiling water for 8-10 minutes. High temperature will soften the endothelial fibers. After removing it, use a toothpick or knife to gently pry open the gap between the walnuts while they are still hot. The inner layer can be peeled off along with the outer shell. This method is suitable for situations where a large amount of walnuts need to be processed quickly. It is important to note that soaking for too long may cause the walnut kernels to absorb water and become soft.

2. Natural shade drying method

Fresh walnuts should be placed in a ventilated and cool place to air dry for 3-5 days. After the moisture in the shell and inner skin evaporates, the binding force between the two weakens. After drying, hold the walnut with both hands and squeeze it slightly. When the shell ruptures, the inner lining often falls off synchronously. This method preserves the original flavor of walnuts, but it takes a long time and requires avoiding direct sunlight that can cause oil oxidation.

3. Oven heating method

Walnut flat baking tray is baked at 150 ℃ for 15 minutes, and heat causes the inner skin to shrink and separate from the nuts. After taking it out, wrap and rub it with a towel while it is hot, and use the temperature difference to break and peel off the inner lining. This method has high efficiency, but it should be noted that high temperatures can damage the unsaturated fatty acids in walnuts. It is recommended to heat them in sections at low temperatures.

Walnut kernels are rich in linoleic acid, vitamin E, and zinc elements, making them more suitable for making walnut sauce or adding to vegetables after peeling. The recommended daily intake should not exceed 30 grams, and those with weak gastrointestinal function should control their intake. When storing, it should be sealed and moisture-proof to avoid mixing with food with irritating odors. If it is found that the endothelium is difficult to remove, it may be due to incomplete ripening of the walnut, and the drying time can be extended or repeated heating treatment can be performed.
