How to remove the durian smell from the refrigerator

The durian flavor in the refrigerator can be removed through methods such as ventilation, activated carbon adsorption, lemon water wiping, baking soda deodorization, and coffee grounds absorption. The odor of durian mainly comes from sulfur-containing compounds, which are highly volatile and easily adhere to the inner walls of refrigerators, requiring targeted treatment.

1. Ventilation and deodorization

Turn off the power and empty the refrigerator, then open the cabinet door and place it in a ventilated area for more than 6 hours. Flowing air can accelerate the volatilization of sulfides, especially suitable for residual odors in plastic barriers or seal gaps. It can be combined with an electric fan to enhance convection, but it is necessary to avoid direct sunlight that can cause aging of refrigerator components.

2. Activated carbon adsorption

Food grade activated carbon packs are placed on each layer of the refrigerator, and their porous structure can adsorb sulfur molecules. Approximately 50 grams of activated carbon are used for every 100 liters of volume, and can be reused after 48 hours of exposure to sunlight for 4 hours. Be careful to avoid food contamination caused by scattered charcoal powder. Pregnant women and their families are recommended to use coconut shell activated charcoal for safety.

3. Lemon water wiping

Wet a soft cloth with a 1:5 mixture of fresh lemon juice and warm water, and wipe the inner wall and sealing strip thoroughly. Citric acid can neutralize sulfides and eliminate common microorganisms such as Escherichia coli in refrigerators. After processing, wipe clean with a dry cloth to prevent the growth of mold in condensed water.

4. Baking Soda Deodorization

An open container containing 200 grams of edible baking soda is placed in the refrigerator, and its alkaline components can react with acidic sulfur compounds. Replacing it every three days is equally effective against odors in the freezer. Stubborn odors can be applied with baking soda paste to the joints, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then wiped off.

5. Coffee grounds absorption

Lay the dried coffee grounds flat on a shallow plate and place them in the refrigerator. Coffee polyphenols and nitrogen compounds can decompose odor molecules. Flip once a day to fully expose to air, and replace with new slag after 3 days. This method is suitable for alternating use with tea residue to avoid olfactory fatigue affecting judgment. After processing, it is recommended to pack strong flavored foods such as durian in a fresh-keeping box and regularly clean the removable compartments. Disinfect the refrigerator once a month with white vinegar steam and keep the humidity below 40% to reduce odor adsorption. If the odor persists for more than two weeks, it is necessary to check whether the drainage hole is blocked or the sealing strip is aging, and contact after-sales maintenance if necessary.
