How to quickly remove large areas of floor adhesive

Quick removal of large areas of floor adhesive can be achieved through methods such as hot compress softening, scraping tools, chemical solvents, mechanical polishing, steam cleaning, etc. Floor adhesive residue is usually caused by factors such as adhesive aging, improper construction, and humid environment. It is necessary to choose the appropriate method according to the actual situation.

1. Heat compress softening

Use a hair dryer or hot air gun to evenly heat the floor adhesive, with a temperature controlled at around 60 degrees Celsius, to avoid high temperature damage to the floor material. After the colloid is softened by heat, use a plastic scraper to gradually remove it from the edge. Stubborn residues can be repeatedly heated. This method is suitable for thermoplastic colloids such as PVC flooring and epoxy resin adhesive. Solid wood flooring requires careful temperature control.

2. Scraping tool

Choose a professional shovel with an angle grinder attachment to maintain a 15 degree inclination angle between the tool and the ground for one-way scraping. Metal scraper is suitable for ceramic tiles and cement substrates, while plastic scraper is suitable for surface treatment of wooden floors. Pay attention to maintaining even force during operation to avoid scratching the base layer. It is recommended to divide large areas into blocks for treatment.

3. Chemical solvent

Acetone or specialized adhesive remover can dissolve polyurethane adhesives. Before use, the material's resistance should be tested in an inconspicuous place. Apply the solvent and let it stand for 10 minutes. After the colloid expands and turns white, wipe it off. When operating in a ventilated environment, strong solvents are prohibited for rubber flooring. After treatment, neutral cleaning agents should be used to rinse off any residue.

4. Mechanical polishing

For residual cement floors, an angle grinder with diamond grinding discs can be used, and the speed should be controlled below 8000 revolutions per minute to polish layer by layer. The wooden base should be replaced with a sand belt machine and 80-120 grit sandpaper, and after polishing, it needs to be re sealed. This method will generate a lot of dust and needs to be cleaned synchronously with an industrial vacuum cleaner.

5. Steam Cleaning

Commercial steam cleaning machines produce high-temperature steam that can penetrate the adhesive layer, soften it, and then use a scraper to remove it. Suitable for removing carpet backing glue or splicing floor mat glue, keep the nozzle moving at a constant speed 3 centimeters above the ground during processing. The steam temperature can reach 150 degrees Celsius, and after treatment, it is necessary to promptly dry the surface water stains. After cleaning, it is recommended to use a slightly damp mop combined with a cleaning agent with a pH value of 7-8 to wipe the entire area. Stubborn stains can be treated locally with baking soda paste. For composite flooring, prolonged soaking in water should be avoided, while solid wood flooring should be waxed and cured within 48 hours. Timely clean up spilled glue stains during daily maintenance, and it is recommended to apply interface agent before laying new flooring to prevent glue penetration. If the colloid has penetrated into the interior of the material or the area exceeds 10 square meters, it is recommended to contact a professional construction team for handling.
