How to preserve millet bananas for a long time

Xiaomi bananas can be stored for a longer period of time by controlling temperature, reducing squeezing, keeping them dry, storing them separately, and avoiding direct sunlight.

1. Temperature Control

Xiaomi bananas are suitable for storage in an environment of 12-15 degrees Celsius. High temperatures can accelerate ripening and decay, while low temperatures may cause frostbite. You can wrap the stem of immature millet bananas with plastic wrap and place them in a cool and ventilated place. If you need to delay ripening, you can put the fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator compartment for preservation, but the skin may turn black and not affect consumption.

2. Reduce Squeezing

The skin of millet banana is fragile and easily damaged, and the compressed parts will quickly turn black spots and rot. When stored, it should be laid flat in a breathable container to avoid stacking more than two layers. Soft materials can be used for interval protection during transportation, and hanging storage can effectively reduce the compressed area.

3. Keep dry.

Surface moisture can accelerate mold growth, so it is necessary to thoroughly dry it after cleaning. In humid environments, kitchen paper can be wrapped to absorb moisture and replaced regularly. If condensation droplets are found, they should be wiped off in a timely manner. During the rainy season, food desiccants can be placed to assist in moisture prevention.

4. Store separately

Millet bananas will release ethylene to accelerate their own and surrounding fruit ripening, and should be placed separately from ethylene producing fruits such as apples and pears. You can wrap the stem with tin foil to reduce ethylene diffusion, or place it in a sealed box for isolation. Cut bananas need to be sealed with plastic wrap.

5. Avoid direct sunlight.

Ultraviolet radiation can damage the cell structure of the fruit peel, leading to rapid browning. It should be stored in a dark cabinet or bag. If ripening is required, scattered light can be briefly received, but if it exceeds 2 hours, it needs to be transferred. It is recommended to store in a refrigerated environment and avoid light during the high temperature period in summer.

The color change of the fruit stem can be observed during daily storage. When a transparent gelatinous exudate appears, it indicates that it is about to be overcooked and needs to be consumed as soon as possible. Millet bananas with different maturity levels can be used to make milkshakes, dried fruits, or frozen for storage. After peeling, dropping lemon juice can prevent oxidation and discoloration. Regularly inspect and remove rotten fruits to avoid contaminating the entire string. If long-term storage is required, it can be sliced and dried or vacuum sealed and frozen. After thawing, it is suitable for baking use. Keep the environment clean during storage and wash hands before contact to avoid introducing bacteria.
