How to peel tomatoes quickly?

Tomatoes can be peeled using quick methods such as hot water blanching, freezing, fire roasting, knife scraping, spoon scraping, etc.

1. Hot water blanching method

Cut a cross on the top of the tomato and soak it in boiling water for about 10 seconds. After the skin expands due to heat, it separates from the flesh. After removing it, easily tear off the skin along the cutting edge. This method is suitable for processing large quantities of tomatoes, but it is important to note that boiling for too long can cause the flesh to become soft.

2. Freezing Method

After freezing tomatoes for 2 hours, take them out and leave them at room temperature for a moment. The skin will crack due to thermal expansion and contraction, and can be peeled off by gently pushing with your fingers. The freezing process can maintain the integrity of the fruit pulp, but cooking time needs to be planned in advance, making it suitable for making cold dishes that require shape preservation.

3. Fire baking method

Use a fork to fix tomatoes and quickly flip and bake them over an open flame. After the skin bursts due to heat, immediately immerse it in ice water, causing the skin to curl and peel off due to thermal expansion and contraction. This method is suitable for immediate processing of small amounts, and the roasting process will give tomatoes a special smoky flavor.

4. Knife Cutting Method

Use a knife to make spiral knife marks on the surface of tomatoes, with a depth only reaching the skin. The intact skin can be torn off in strips from the scratch. It is necessary to control the intensity to avoid damaging the fruit pulp, and it is suitable for making decorative dishes that require the preservation of intact fruit pulp.

5. Spoon scraping method

Use the back of the spoon to repeatedly scrape along the surface of the tomato, breaking the subcutaneous tissue connection and peeling off from the stem. This method does not require auxiliary tools, but requires controlling the force to avoid damaging the flesh, making it suitable for processing soft tomatoes with high maturity. Tomatoes that have been peeled are more suitable for making sauces, soups, and other dishes that require delicate texture. It is recommended to choose the appropriate method according to cooking needs. When handling, pay attention to keeping the workbench dry and slip resistant, and take protective measures when using sharp knives. The peeling process will result in the loss of some water-soluble vitamins. The peeled tomato skin can be dried and ground into powder for use as a natural seasoning. For cold dishes that require preservation of nutrients, it is recommended to consume them with the skin on, thoroughly clean them, and cut them directly for preparation.
