How to make orange juice at home

Homemade orange juice can be achieved through methods such as fresh pressing, pounding with a blender, and manual squeezing, with simple operation and better preservation. When making homemade orange juice, it is important to choose fresh oranges, wash and peel them too deeply to affect their taste, and avoid long-term oxidation.

1. Fresh pressing method

Use a manual or electric juicer to directly press oranges, which can maximize the retention of pulp fiber and vitamin C. Cut the oranges in half, press and rotate them tightly, and separate the juice from the fruit residue through a filter. This method has a high juice yield and is suitable for people who prefer pure fruit juice, but it should be consumed in a timely manner to avoid oxidation and loss of nutrients.

2. Beating with a blender

Peel and cut oranges into pieces and place them in the blender. Add an appropriate amount of cold water and stir until smooth. This method can retain all dietary fiber, resulting in a thicker texture and suitable for making fruit puree like drinks. Please note that the stirring time should not exceed 30 seconds to avoid high temperatures damaging vitamins. Ice cubes can be added to reduce friction and increase temperature.

3. Hand squeeze

After softening the orange, cut it open and use a fork to rotate and squeeze the flesh to extract the juice. Suitable for emergency use without professional tools, with low juice yield but easy operation. It is recommended to first let the orange sit at room temperature or microwave it for 10 seconds, as the flesh softens and becomes easier to squeeze. Finally, filter the residue with gauze to enhance the taste.

4. Cold extraction soaking

Peel and remove the white film from the orange slices, then add honey and refrigerate for 6 hours. The resulting juice is sweet and has no bitterness. This method is suitable for making low acidity fruit juice, retaining more aromatic substances, but with greater loss of vitamin C. Can be paired with mint leaves or ginger slices to enhance flavor levels.

5. Mixed Extraction

Mix oranges with carrots, apples, etc. to extract juice, which can balance acidity and enhance nutritional value. It is recommended to maintain a ratio of 3:1 between fruits and vegetables, and add lemon juice to prevent oxidation and discoloration. The use of a slow juicer can reduce the production of foam, and it is better to refrigerate for 30 minutes before drinking.

It is recommended to choose seasonal navel oranges or blood oranges for homemade orange juice, as those with smooth and heavy skin have more juice. Drink within 2 hours after extraction, or store in a sealed refrigerator for no more than 24 hours. People with gastrointestinal sensitivity should avoid drinking on an empty stomach and can dilute it with warm water appropriately. Regularly changing the juicing method can help intake different forms of nutrients, and consuming it with whole wheat bread can slow down the rate of blood sugar rise. If the fruit pulp deteriorates or has a strange odor, it should be immediately stopped from drinking.
