How to lose weight with fatty liver

Fatty liver patients can lose weight by adjusting their diet, increasing aerobic exercise, controlling weight, limiting alcohol intake, and following medical advice and medication treatment. Fatty liver may be related to long-term high-fat diet, lack of exercise, alcohol abuse, metabolic abnormalities, drug side effects, and other factors, usually manifested as symptoms such as liver discomfort, fatigue, and decreased appetite.

1. Adjust dietary structure

Reduce intake of high-fat and high sugar foods, increase the proportion of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and high-quality protein. Avoid fried foods and processed snacks, and choose low-fat cooking methods such as steaming and boiling. Three meals a day are scheduled and quantified, and dietary fiber intake can be appropriately increased to help metabolism.

2. Increase aerobic exercise

Engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise per week, such as brisk walking, swimming, cycling, etc. Exercise can promote fat breakdown metabolism and improve insulin resistance. In the initial stage, you can start gradually from 20 minutes a day to avoid injuries caused by intense exercise.

3. Weight Control

Control the body mass index within the range of 18.5-23.9, with a monthly weight loss of no more than 5%. Excessive dieting may lead to rapid fat breakdown and increase the burden on the liver. It is necessary to achieve stable weight loss through a combination of diet and exercise. Regularly monitor changes in waist circumference and body fat percentage.

4. Limit alcohol intake

Patients with alcoholic fatty liver disease should strictly quit drinking, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease should also avoid drinking alcohol. Alcohol can directly damage the mitochondrial function of liver cells and inhibit fatty acid oxidation metabolism. Long term alcohol consumption may progress to fatty liver disease or even cirrhosis.

5. Medication therapy

Under the guidance of a doctor, liver protective drugs such as Orlistat capsules, Silymarin capsules, and Bicyclol tablets can be selected. When combined with diabetes or hyperlipidemia, it is necessary to cooperate with metformin sustained-release tablets, atorvastatin calcium tablets and other basic diseases to control. Do not take weight loss medication on your own. Patients with fatty liver should establish a long-term health management plan and regularly review liver function and ultrasound. Maintain a regular daily routine, avoid staying up late and excessive fatigue. When cooking, use unsaturated fatty acids such as olive oil, and supplement with appropriate amounts of vitamin E and milk thistle extract. If severe symptoms such as jaundice and ascites occur, seek medical attention immediately. Through continuous intervention, most mild fatty liver can be reversed.
