The sand in Xiaomi can be effectively removed through soaking and washing, sieve filtration, sedimentation, and other methods. There are mainly five methods: washing, sieving, precipitation, magnetic attraction, and picking.

1. Washing method
Put millet into a basin, add enough water, and gently rub with your hands. The sand has a high density and will settle at the bottom of the basin. Repeatedly washing it several times can remove most of the sand particles. Pay attention to gentle movements during washing to avoid crushing and losing nutrients from millet. Rice washing water can be reserved for watering plants, as it is rich in starch and helps with plant growth.
2. Sieve method
Use a fine pore sieve to filter millet, with a suitable sieve aperture of about 1 millimeter. Lay the millet flat on the sieve and gently shake it to allow the rice grains to pass through the mesh, and the sand particles will be blocked by the sieve. This method is suitable for situations with large processing volumes and can be combined with slight wind assisted separation. It has high efficiency but may have a small amount of millet residue.
3. Precipitation method
uses the difference in specific gravity between sand and millet for separation. Pour the millet into a water container and stir, then let it stand. The sand will quickly sink to the bottom. When the millet is suspended, tilt and pour out the upper layer of rice grains. Repetitive operation can improve cleanliness and is suitable for handling millet with high sand content, but attention should be paid to controlling the settling time to avoid excessive water absorption by millet.

4. Magnetic attraction method
Some sand particles contain iron components, which can be slowly moved and adsorbed by wrapping gauze with magnets in a pile of rice. This method has a significant effect on iron containing sand particles. During operation, it is necessary to maintain an appropriate distance between the magnet and the millet to avoid excessive adsorption force that can take away the rice particles. Clean the sand particles on the surface of the magnet in a timely manner after use, and the magnet should not come into direct contact with food.
Fifth, picking method
Lay the millet flat in a well lit area and manually pick out visible sand particles. Suitable for handling small amounts of millet or as a supplementary step to other methods, it can be combined with a white background to improve sand particle recognition. Although the efficiency is low, it can preserve the integrity of Xiaomi to the maximum extent, making it suitable for occasions with high requirements for the appearance of rice grains.

It is recommended to prioritize physical filtration when dealing with sand containing millet and avoid using chemical cleaning agents. After washing, the millet should be fully drained of water to prevent mold growth during storage. It is recommended to store Xiaomi in a sealed container in a cool and dry place for daily use. Food grade desiccants can be added to extend the shelf life. If you find that Xiaomi has a strange smell or mold, you should stop eating it. The aflatoxin produced by moldy grains is harmful to the liver. High quality Xiaomi granules are full and uniform in color. When purchasing, pay attention to the impurity content and prioritize choosing products from legitimate channels. Regularly clean the corners of the rice box to avoid the accumulation and breeding of insect eggs in aged rice. It is not advisable to mix old and new millet.
