How to eat dried persimmons after freezing

Dried persimmons can be thawed and consumed directly after freezing, or heated or mixed with other ingredients to make desserts. The main ways to consume frozen persimmon cakes include thawing and ready to eat, heating and softening, making desserts, pairing with drinks, and cooking as a dish.

1. Thaw ready to eat

After taking out the frozen persimmon cakes from the refrigerator, let them stand at room temperature for about 15 minutes to thaw naturally. Once the surface frost melts, they can be consumed directly. The thawed persimmon cakes have a dense and cool taste, with a slightly concentrated sweetness, making them suitable for people who enjoy cold food. Please note that the thawing time should not be too long to avoid excessive softening of the fruit pulp, which may affect the flavor.

2. Heat softening

Steam frozen persimmon cakes in water for 5 minutes or microwave them on low heat for 30 seconds to restore their soft texture. After heating, the sweet taste of persimmon cakes becomes more prominent, suitable for elderly people or children with poor teeth. It is recommended to control the heating temperature below 60 degrees Celsius to avoid high temperatures damaging nutrients.

3. Making Desserts

Thawed persimmon cakes can be cut into pieces and added to yogurt, ice cream, or milkshakes to increase natural sweetness and dietary fiber. It can also be mixed with glutinous rice flour to make persimmon glutinous rice pudding, or used as stuffing to wrap rice dumpling. The gelatinous texture of frozen persimmon cakes can make desserts more layered.

4. Pairing with drinks

Soak partially thawed persimmon slices in black tea or flower tea to give the drink a natural fruity aroma. The combination of tannic acid and tea polyphenols in persimmon cakes can reduce astringency. In winter, persimmon cakes can be boiled with ginger and red dates to make a health tea drink that can dispel cold and warm the body.

5. Cooking with ingredients

After cutting the frozen persimmon into small pieces, it can be stewed with yam and pork ribs to increase the sweetness of the soup. After thawing, the dried persimmon meat is mashed and can replace some of the sugar in making pastries or bread. Please remove the persimmon stems before serving to avoid affecting the taste of the dish.

Frozen persimmon cakes should be sealed and stored to avoid cross flavors. It is recommended to consume them within 24 hours after thawing. Individuals with weak gastrointestinal function should control their single consumption and avoid overeating on an empty stomach. If ice crystals or discoloration appear on the surface of persimmon cakes, they may have spoiled and are not recommended for continued consumption. Fresh persimmon cakes can be packaged and frozen daily, which not only extends their shelf life but also allows you to enjoy the flavor changes brought by different eating methods at any time.
