How to cut strawberries beautifully and arrange them on a fruit platter

The strawberry cutting method affects the appearance of the fruit tray, and can be improved visually through oblique cutting, V-shaped cutting, half cutting, thin slice cutting, carved cutting, and other methods.

1. Slant the strawberry stem downwards and cut the blade at a 45 degree angle into the flesh, forming an elliptical cross-section. Diagonal cutting can enhance the three-dimensional effect of strawberries, making them suitable for placement at the edge of fruit trays or overlapping with other fruits. The cut surface can be dipped in a small amount of lemon juice to prevent oxidation and discoloration, maintaining a bright red color.

2. V-cut

Use the tip of the knife to cut diagonally from the top of the strawberry to both sides of the stem, and remove the wedge-shaped flesh to form a V-shaped groove. This cutting method is suitable for displaying the internal texture of strawberries. The cut surface can be placed facing upwards, and the grooves can be filled with yogurt or chocolate sauce to increase the layering.

3. Cut in half

Cut vertically along the longitudinal centerline of the strawberry and divide it into symmetrical halves. The cut surface is flat and easy to stack, and can be arranged radially or alternately with the entire strawberry. Retaining the stem can enhance the natural look of the design, making it suitable for making fruit tarts or decorating desserts in cups.

4. Slicing

Cut strawberries horizontally into 2-3 mm thin slices, which can be pieced together into flower or heart patterns. The thin film needs to maintain a uniform thickness and be placed more accurately with the assistance of tweezers. This cutting method is suitable for making flat shaped fruit plates, paired with mango or kiwi slices to create color contrast.

5. Carving and Cutting

Use a carving knife to make petal shaped cuts on the top of the strawberry, gently remove the outer flesh to create a blooming effect. The depth of carving should not exceed half of the flesh, and soaking in ice water can make the petals firmer. Suitable as a centerpiece decoration for fruit plates, paired with mint leaves to enhance delicacy.

Choosing strawberries with similar maturity can ensure uniform color on the cut surface. After cleaning, they should be thoroughly dried to avoid diluting the juice with water. Match small fruits such as blueberries and raspberries according to the theme of the fruit platter, and fill the gaps with basil leaves. Cut strawberries are recommended to be refrigerated and consumed within 2 hours. Fruit slices that have oxidized and discolored can be used to make jam or smoother to avoid waste. Keeping the knife sharp can reduce the squeezing of fruit pulp, and using a wavy knife or heart-shaped mold can create more shape changes.
