How to cut corn into small pieces

Cutting corn into small pieces can be done using knife cutting, scissor cutting, or manual breaking methods, depending on the condition of the corn and the choice of tool.

1. Knife Cutting Method

Choose a sharp chef's knife or serrated knife, place the corn horizontally on the cutting board, fix the top of the corn with one hand, and use the other hand to cut vertically from the middle of the corn. If the corn is hard, it can be boiled for 3 minutes to soften. It is recommended to keep the cutting length 3-5 centimeters for easy handheld consumption. Be careful to retract your fingers when cutting to avoid scratches. Thicker corn can be cut in half first and then divided into sections.

2. Scissor Method

Use kitchen specific scissors to clamp the corn cob, cut it in half longitudinally along the gap between the corn kernels, and then cut it horizontally into small sections. This method is suitable for corn that has already been cooked and is relatively soft. It can avoid splashing of juice and ensure that the cut of the corn segment is smooth and not easily broken. When processing corn with leaves, the outer leaves can be peeled off first, and 1-2 layers of inner skin can be kept moist.

3. Break the corn by hand

Hold both ends of the corn with both hands, twist them in opposite directions until you hear the sound of fiber breakage, then fold them in half and repeat the operation until the desired length is reached. The fiber of fresh corn cobs is brittle and easy to break, and refrigerated corn needs to be warmed up at room temperature before operation. This method does not require tools but may cause uneven cross-sections, making it suitable for ready to eat scenarios.

When processing corn, it is recommended to choose yellow corn with moderate maturity, as the lignification of the corn cob will increase the difficulty of cutting. The cut corn segments can be refrigerated for 2 days, and for frozen storage, they need to be blanched first. Steaming with a core during cooking can preserve more sweetness. When making salads or stir fry, you can first scrape off the entire row of corn kernels with the back of a spoon. Attention should be paid to cutting children's food into segments longer than 3 centimeters to prevent accidental ingestion. Elderly people are recommended to cut them into thin slices or scrape them for consumption.
