How much rice should be steamed for two people

It is generally recommended to add 150-200 grams of rice to steamed rice for two people. The actual dosage needs to be adjusted based on factors such as personal appetite, water absorption of rice varieties, and pairing with dishes. The water absorption rate of ordinary japonica rice is about 1:1.2150 grams of raw rice. After steaming, about 400 grams of rice can be obtained, which basically meets the staple food needs of two adults with normal appetite. If using sorghum or brown rice with strong water absorption, an appropriate increase of 20-30 grams of rice can be added. When used to pairing soup or noodles, the amount of rice can be reduced to around 120 grams. The scale of the inner pot of a rice cooker is usually measured in cups, and the standard measuring cup weighs about 160 grams per square meter. It is recommended to take 1-1.2 cups when two people are eating.

In special circumstances, the rice quantity needs to be adjusted. For those with weak digestive function or those who control their carbohydrate intake during dinner, they can reduce it to 100 grams of rice and pair it with miscellaneous grains. For physical labor or adolescent growth and development, it is recommended to increase the weight to 200-250 grams per meter. When using the separated water steaming method, an additional 10% water volume is required due to less steam reflux. Rice soaked for more than 30 minutes will absorb enough water, and after steaming, its volume will expand more significantly. At this time, the rice can be taken according to the usual measurement.

Before steaming rice, it is recommended to wash the rice 2-3 times until the water is clear, and the ratio of rice to water should be controlled within the range of 1:1.1-1.3. New rice has a high water content and requires little or no water addition, while aged rice needs to be soaked more and the water content increased. After steaming, let it simmer for 10 minutes before opening the lid. Use a rice spoon to loosen and let the excess water vapor evaporate, making the rice taste softer. Long term consumption of pure white rice can easily lead to vitamin B1 deficiency. It is recommended to regularly replace one-third of the intake with whole grains such as brown rice, black rice, or oat rice.
