There are five ways to eat jujube: directly eating, cooking Congee, making tea, making desserts, and adding vegetables.
1. Direct consumption
Honey dates can be directly used as snacks after sugar soaking processing, with a soft, glutinous and sweet taste. Choose honey dates with a rosy color and plump granules, and it is recommended to consume 5-8 of them daily. Jujube has a high sugar content, so diabetes patients should control their intake. When consuming directly, be careful to chew slowly and avoid jujube pits getting stuck in the throat. Children should consume under parental supervision.
2. Boiling Congee
Jujube can be cooked with rice, millet and other grains to form health preserving Congee. The natural sweetness of Congee can be increased and the added sugar can be reduced by boiling jujube with rice after seedless. Suitable for pairing with ingredients such as lotus seeds and lilies, it has the effect of nourishing yin and moistening dryness. Jujube will release sugar when cooking. It is suggested to extend the cooking time to make the sweetness fully integrated into Congee.
3. Brewing tea
After slicing honey dates, it can be brewed with black tea, Pu erh tea, etc., which can harmonize the astringency of the tea soup. Take 2-3 honey jujubes, remove the seeds and slice them. Brew them in boiling water for 5 minutes, and the jujube and tea aromas will blend to form a unique flavor. In winter, ginger slices can be added to dispel the cold, and in summer, they can be chilled and consumed. Pay attention to the sugar content in jujube tea, and clean your mouth promptly after drinking.
4. Making desserts
Honey dates can be used as fillings for traditional Dim sum such as Babaofan (Rice pudding with eight-delicious ingredients), Zongzi, moon cakes, etc. During production, it is necessary to remove the seeds and crush them in advance, and mix them with bean paste, nuts, and other ingredients. The stickiness of honey dates helps to shape, and their sweetness can reduce the amount of sucrose used. When baking, pay attention to controlling the temperature to avoid high temperatures causing honey dates to become bitter. The finished product is recommended to be refrigerated and consumed within 3 days.
5. Sweet dates can be paired with meat dishes such as chicken and pork ribs to create nourishing dishes. To steam chicken with honey dates, it is necessary to stuff the seedless honey dates into the chicken belly and steam them to make the meat fresh and tender. Adding honey dates to stew soup can replace monosodium glutamate for freshness, and when combined with medicinal herbs such as goji berries and Angelica sinensis, it can enhance the dietary supplement effect. During the cooking process, honey dates should be added later to avoid damaging their shape and nutrition after prolonged cooking.
As a medicinal and edible ingredient, it is recommended to choose the appropriate way to eat jujube according to one's constitution. People with damp heat constitution should reduce their intake, and if they experience bloating after consumption, they can drink tangerine peel water to relieve it. When purchasing, pay attention to whether the honey jujube has crystallization or mold. After opening, it should be sealed and refrigerated. In addition to traditional eating methods, modern healthy foods such as yogurt and oats can also be innovatively paired, but daily total sugar intake should be controlled to maintain a balanced diet.
