How long can rose tea be stored

Rose tea can usually be stored for 12-18 months in a sealed and dry environment, and the actual storage time is affected by factors such as storage method, packaging status, environmental humidity, raw material quality, and whether preservatives are added.

1. Storage method

Rose tea sealed in the dark has a longer shelf life. It is recommended to use opaque ceramic or glass jars for storage to avoid direct sunlight that may cause oxidation and discoloration of the petals. refrigeration can extend the storage time, but attention should be paid to sealing and moisture prevention. After removal, it is necessary to return to room temperature before opening the lid to prevent condensation.

2. Packaging status

Vacuum packaged rose tea that has not been opened can maintain the best quality. Once opened, the petals coming into contact with air will accelerate the volatilization of aromatic substances. It is recommended to divide them into small portions for use. The independent tea bag form is more durable for storage than loose petals.

3. Environmental humidity

Relative humidity exceeding 60% can easily cause petals to become damp and moldy. Food desiccants can be placed in humid areas of the south or stored together with quicklime bags. If petals become soft or stuck, they should be immediately air dried or dried at low temperatures.

4. Raw material quality

Tea made from first stem roses with full flower buds and bright colors is more durable for storage. The shelf life of flowers with more broken petals or already opened flowers will be shortened by about one-third due to damaged cell structure.

5. Preservative Addition

Some commercially available products may contain natural antioxidants such as vitamin E, which can extend the shelf life of this type of flower tea to 24 months. It is recommended to consume homemade flower tea without additives within 6 months, and the freshness can be determined by observing whether the petals fade.

When storing rose tea, it is necessary to regularly check the condition of the petals. If there is obvious discoloration, mold or odor, it should be discarded immediately. It is recommended to seal it promptly after each use and avoid storing it together with items with strong odors. When drinking with honey or rock sugar, pay attention to the fact that sugar can reduce the preservative effect. After mixing, it should be consumed on the same day. Long term stored rose tea can be smelled before brewing to confirm good quality. Flower tea should have a long-lasting and rich rose aroma, and the soup color should be amber. If used for beauty and skincare, it is recommended to choose rose tea freshly made in the current season for more significant effects.
